Like you said before for my moms boyfriends situation, surgery is an option due to the cancer spreading. He is going in the hospital for radiation treatment. he will be going to this 5 times and then they are going to open up his neck but i dont know what for Do you happen to know. and do you know what stage this might be?

The most likely scenario is the doc is using the radiation to shrink the laryngeal tumor prior to surgery. A tumor the size of a marble is relatively large, if you consider the size of the surrounding structures. It's not good that he has already had some of his tongue removed, as there are lots of lymph nodes and blood vessels in the area that would spread the cancer. If it was only confined to the larynx, it would have a better chance for a cure.
