They're made out of plain old every day squid. Usually not much bigger than a foot long.

Let's make this easy. You need 2 jars of Alfredo Sauce. Use Linguine for the pasta (I recommend Barilla). Use frozen cooked shrimp (take the tails off), you can buy frozen squid (geisha brand), and maybe canned baby clams? The seafood choices are optional. I add extra garlic (to taste) to the jarred sauce. Mushrooms are also a nice addition to this. DO NOT serve the pasta with the sauce piled on the top. After you noodles are cooked (under cook slightly), toss with the seafood and garlic added sauce you prepared. Serve with grated cheese.

generaly its a type of small squid called a humbolt squid they are hunted with glow sticks to draw them up
