That is a good question. I would think that since God is omnipotent and omniscient, he would both know about what was happening and step in to save the future of humanity. If you say he was respecting man's free will, then he was simply allowing the fate of mankind to be put in danger of hell, even though he could have saved everyone from the get go. That is why I stopped going to church. All of the questions I had never had satisfying answers.

I'm not sure the Adam and Eve story is not allegory, or, to put it plainly, a parable...that is, a fable told to teach a life lesson. I see no reason why God couldn't use parables in His book.
I don't think Eve actually bit into a literal fruit..."the tree of knowledge of good and evil" actually represents forbidden knowledge...not forbidden fruit. There are all sorts of instances where the Bible refers to "spiritual fruit", but nobody thinks it is referring to literal fruit.
Anyhow, I think God knew all about Satan's plaan to tempt Eve, and through her, all of mankind, to taste knowledge they were not ready for. I think Satan is sent to us on purpose, to test our mettle. How else are we to mature and grow to be worthy to be His Sons and Daughters?
I could be wrong about this, but that is what I think.

1) God knew, He asked the question like a parent does when their child's been out late, they know where they've been and they wanna see the kid's explanation
2) Eve fell into a trap all on her own. God doesn't stop you from making decisions; He warns, He tries to talk you out of it, but He doesn't manipulate. He already gave Adam and Eve instructions and they had enough sense to rationalize action vs consequence and judge based on their relationship with God, even if morality was a foreign concept

God Knew it would happen, He wants everyone to be able to make a choice for him or Satan, and if Adam and eve were not allowed that choice than no one cold ever make it. GOD wants to be chosen out of love for him not because there is nothing else to choose

Obviously God wanted things to play out this way.
The Bible seems to imply that evil somehow serves some good purpose indirectly, otherwise God would not have allowed it to exist.
The short answer would be that love is not real if it is not freely given, and that love cannot be said to have been freely given unless there was the real possibility of rejection.
One can also note that virtue is not really virtue unless one had a choice to do otherwise, but choose not to. Once again, for the choice to be real, there had to be the real possibility of someone choosing foolishly.

I have just read the appropriate chapters and nowhere does it say that Satan was in the garden and talked through a snake. It simply says that Eve was talking to a snake. If people and animals can no longer talk to each other, the Bible is proving that life has evolved and evolution is a fact.

He did know. There is no question that He didn't. And He knew the decision that Eve would ultimately make. Nevertheless, Eve still had free will. She exercised her free will. And because she did so, she ultimately ushered sin into a sinless, perfect world. And that is why God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins, because He knew that we are human and that no matter how hard we try we would still sin.

God did know...what makes you think he didn't?
He allowed Satan to be there because Eve had the ability to choose God. She had the ability to say "no" to Satan and she did not.

Because he gave man the right to free will. Free will meant that Eve had to make the choice to obey God or sucumb to Satan.

The Garden of Eden story is metaphorical. The snake represents others (egos) tempting the innocent feminine (vulnerable/creative) aspect of mind to believe in a world of duality - believing in good and evil - while Adam (masculine/reason aspect of mind) sleeps. Once shame is experienced we have lost the divine experience of reality.
