It depends. I had invisalign and had a very good effect after only 8 months of treatment. Invisalign is not for everyone though. You have to be compliant with the treatment; this means wearing the aligners for 20 hours a day, even when they hurt. Also, invisalign is more costly than standard braces. Good luck...

I have been in appliances for 2 years and traditional metal braces for 2 years. I checked into Invisalign and it can be used by people that already have correct arches and bite or fairly large gaps between their teeth, hence my need to have appliances for two years to develop and widen my arches. Straightening teeth is one thing, correcting a bad bite (overbite/underbite) is another. Invisalign does nothing for correcting your bite, only moving teeth about to "straighten" them.

I am getting my braces off at the end of July and my dentist is putting me into Invisalign to wear for retention at night. They are also called Essix retainers.

If I were you, I'd get a couple of opinions and estimates from orthodontists and go from there.

Invisalign can get expensive, depending on how many trays you must purchase and the "convenience" of removing them is a BIG temptation for not wearing them 20+ hours a day, even for an adult. I am 36 and there were PLENTY of times that if my braces would have been removable, I probably would have given up. Adults teeth move quite slowly while children and young teen's teeth move more rapidly thus braces wearing time is cut down considerably.

Good luck and if you have always wanted straight teeth don't let the amount of time it takes to accomplish the task put you off. All of the adults I've spoken to have never regretted it!

Invisalign works very well. How ever, it is not for more severe cases.
