I've been to a wedding where the mother of the bride wore a pant suit! I really don't think it matters as long as the bride and groom don't mind.

The Mother of the Bride and the Mother of the Groom should dress "in the same level of formality." I have seen "a few dressy pant suits" that have been worn at outdoor weddings that are most appropriate and fitting for the setting but the majority of the Mothers of the Grooms wear gowns or dresses not pants. Why don't you consider wearing two outfits, a dress or gown for the ceremony and a dressy pant suit for the reception? Why, of course they can, my dear. There are some absolutely stunning pants suits that are so comfortable and so very elegant. The most important thing is that the mothers be comfortable. How lucky you are that both mothers feel the same way. They can start setting a fashion trend for mothers of the bride and groom. A nice linen suit, or one of silk could make a splendid hit. Think about how they might accessorize too, with a retro/vintage hat, and perhaps a dangling necklace that hangs just above their cleavage. Did I mention they might wear a silk blouse that has a very low cut and spaghetti straps. After a few drinks, they can throw off their jacket, and dance the night away showing off their lovely cleavage in their new strapless corsette or brassierre which pushes up their bosom. It sounds like a smashing time.

Get all involved parties together and address the issue to see what the bride and groom want. As for me, wear what you want that won't embarass the bride or groom. Dressy pants shouldn't do that. Just wear more than the pants though.

I dont see it being a problem especially because its dressy. Both my mother and mother in law both wore dressy pants at our wedding (they are not the type to wear dresses) and it looked great.

It would definitely be appropriate for you to wear dressy pants if this is what you would feel comfortable wearing. You could also cosider wearing a trouser suit in a pale pastel colour or a natural colour such as cream or beige.

Yes. The mother of the groom can wear whatever she wants, given it's not offensive to the bride. If pants offend you, you need to get a hobby. As long as they're not white, who cares?

I think it would be fine. I'm getting married in August and would be fine with my own mother wearing pants but she says she would feel bad because my fiance's mother isn't the type to wear pants instead of a dress. If you are okay with her wearing pants then more power to her!

I think since it is an outdoor wedding and probably not so formal then it would be okay, but try to find some wide leg, i think they are called something like palazo pants, that way they will look classier.

Sure! Why not? It's your wedding so you can have them dress however you want them to. If you do want her to be in a dress, however, then you should find a polite way to ask. But dressy pants are just fine - it might just be more flattering for her than a dress anyway. Congrats & good luck! =)
