Well, I'm going to bring up the "b" word - as in Bible. The bible says for the Christian believer, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. As to the non-believer in Christ, they will go to hades (a temporary hell) until the great resurrection at which all the souls in hades will be thrown into the permanent hell along with disobedient angels and Satan. All souls will live eternally - one place or the other.

Be born once, die twice.
Be born twice (again), die once

To those with ears to "hear" and eyes to "see".

A small number of people will grieve for a while. Then they will die. After a few generations you won't even be a memory anymore. (Unless your somebody like George Washington or Alexander the Great. Then, it will just take a bit longer)
Basically, life goes on but you don't.

I have no clue, and I am not arrogant enought to believe I have even the faintest idea. What I can do is guess. I guess our physical self dies, but our soul either stays here on earth (which would explain ghosts), or goes to some higher existence (afterlife?) or is reincarnated.

You rot and your nitrogen is trapped by bacteria living in the roots of many plants.

That nitrogen is vital to all living things, so your death doesn't go to waste.
