I have been experiencing chest pain on and off over the last three days. It gets pretty bad sometimes. I would drink something and it would go away. I have been getting the pains several times a day. I am 36 and weigh 200lbs at 5'11
Any over the counter medication I can take to relieve this pain?

Can you desecribe your pain?

Is it a burning sort of pain that starts low down in the chest and radiates upwards along the middle of the chest? Do you find the pain is brought on by or made worse by bending or by physical activity? Is it worse after you've eaten?

The fact that having a drink helps to ease your pain suggests to me that you may be experiencing heartburn? This is where the contents of the stomach (including stomach acid) move back up the oesophagus causing a severe burning pain. Heart burn can be caused by eating a large meal, eating fatty foods or chocolate, drinking tea or coffee, being overweight or even wearing tight clothing, especially belts.

There are a wide range of treatments available for heartburn such as antacids like gaviscon or rennies, to H2 antagonists which reduce the secretion of stomach acid such as zantac. Your pharmacist should be able to select the best one for you.

*********If your pain feels like a tight band around the chest and radiates to your left shoulder, down your left arm and/or up into your jaw the you need to see a doctor as soon as possible. If you feel pain like this that does not subside even with resting then call an ambulance and get yourself to the ER asap.**********

I agree with Mike, you have to see a medical doctor as soon as possible. This is not good. there is no over the counter medication for this, as it could possibly be a heart problem.

It could be a number of things causing you so much pain, what side is the pain on? If it feels like its under your right rib, while eating certian foods triggers it, you could have Gal Stones, I Just had mine removed after my second child. If its on your other side, could be a number of things as well. The best thing is to go to the doctor, and talk to Him/Her about it. Only them will know exactly what's wrong with you.

There's not alot of pain meds for that, if its gal stones, I had to go to the hopsital alot for pain shots, morphine and vikodine.
