most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations

I think that there is some truth to the idea that the earth has natural warming and cooling trends, however, I think that human actions have greatly increased the rate and severity of the current warming. Most rational people admit now that global warming exists. That's great. But this denial that humans caused it says implicitly that there is little or nothing that humans can do to stop it or slow it, and that is a very dangerous attitude.
I think we can all agree that massive floods, droughts, storms, and damage to the very important ecosystems that we live on are not a good thing. So lets quit the silly arguments and denial about what is causing it and focus on what can be done about it.

Global warming occurs periodically over the history of the earth. At one time the polar ice caps extended down over parts of North America, and evidence of these melts can be observed in kettle lakes. Other factors include great earthquakes such as the one that caused the Great Tsunami, the earthquake was so large that it changed the tilt of the axis of the earth, exposing more of the Northern Hemisphere to warming. The Industrial Revolution, the invention of the motor, use of fossil fuels and the over development of cities all contribute to global warming.

Global warming has been a cyclical event for eons. The problem is that that cycle has been distorted due to our "Industrial Revolution" of the past 150 years. Smoke-belching factories, cars spewing out vehicle emissions, and industries that pollute our water and air supplies have all contributed to the escalation of global warming. Add to that how our "disposable society" has CHOSEN to toss everything into landfills instead of REducing our waste, REusing our "stuff", and REcycling everything that can be recycled. We are a wasteful society, and that's what's "started" this escalated cyclical event. If we don't do something to stop it NOW, it's going to be too late in the next ten years. -RKO- 05/15/07

We have had global warming ever since the Sun's first light wave entered earth's atmosphere. If your talking about the global warming crisis, I think it was started from increased cattle production during the time of the cowboys and such. It has only gotten worse from the burning of fossil fuels and other actions that make greenhouse gasses.

It has been here as long as earth. without some global warming the earth would be unable to sustain life!
I do hover.. believe that the big raise in greenhouse emissions started during the industrial revolution

Ha, Polar bear farts... my dad says that...
Global Warming is actual part of a natural cycle the earth goes through, but humans not taking care of the earth isnt helping much.

A lot of people don't realize that the polar ice capes are actually left over from the last ice age. But their melting has a great deal to do with man's over use of fluorocarbons. As we continue to pump pollution into our environment and cut down our rain forests our world will become more and more uninhabitable. We need to learn to recycle and find cleaner ways to run our homes and cars if we expect to survive into the next century.
