This is going to sound like an ignorant and ethnocentric question, but please bear with me!

I am going to Canada next week, specifically Vancouver. I intend to spend as much time as possible in the casinos playing poker.

Do Canadian casinos take American dollars? Can I readily exchange dollars for Canadian, if so where? Would I be better off simply using an ATM and pulling out Canadian? Should I exchange my money before I go?

Thanks in advance.

It won't be a problem. Do not buy travellers cheques! You get charged a fee for it plus the exchange rate. It is a really outdated way of doing things, and not all stores will accept them. But nearly every store will take US money.

Take your money out at an ATM. There is a money exchange booth at YVR, and you can also exchange money at any bank. You will probably have to exchange your money at the teller at the casino rather than at the table.

have fun and good luck!

Usually at the Airport or on the boarder they will have exchanges to change your money up. I don't think that you can just pull out American money and play on the tables, because there is a difference between American money and the Canadian dollar. I know in Vegas they have exchange places all over the place, The casinos wants to make it as easy as they can for you, so you can play there games, but only American money plays at every casino i have been in, in the United States that is. Good luck... P.S just as a side note zct, Do you think that players in other country's play any different then American players? I know that a lot of European players don't value a big ace like American players do, they like playing more drawing hands like K-Q and Q-J, what do you think?

I've been to several casinos in Niagara Falls, Canada. They exchange money there but you're probably better off using the ATM, you'll get a better exchange rate.

They surely do, but may I suggest something? When I go I use ATM, the banks charge according with the exchange rate of that day, I'd found out, when I went back home, that I'd got charged less money than what I'd took out, I also charge everything on credit cards. Pay very few things cash.

Best conversion is to buy in the USA Canadian Dollar travellers' cheques.

Canadian casinos and ATMs will rip you off just as American casinos and ATMs do.

For other costs: most credit cards now charge conversion plus 3%, but AAA card charges only conversion plus 2%.

You should be able to without issue. Whenever I get US currency, I often go to the local casino (Casino Regina) and they'll always exchange it for Canadian currency.

Welcome to Canada, to be very straight whenever and wherever you go, specially outside your country, always prefer to exchange currency in your own country for the other countries, moreover, on ATM's, traveler's checks or credit cards, you know you have to pay extra money for the service plus exchange rate that may be overall 2 to 4 percent but these instruments are safe.
