MAN (humankind)
Four Legs: represents the crawling that people do in the morning of their lives.
Two Legs: represents strength and the ability to stand on your own at noon in your life.
Three Legs:represents how the elderly need the assistance of a cane to get around in the night of life.

A man, who crawls on all fours as a baby, walks on two legs as an adult, and walks with a cane in old age.
Of course morning, noon, and night are metaphors for the times in a man's (person's) life.
