i currently use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash for my acne. the bottle suggests that i use it twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. my mom says that i should just use it at night, since scrubbing and cleaning your face too often will irritate the already sensitive acne. she says i should just rinse my face with water in the morning. who should i listen to?

It really depends what your skin feels like. If you use it twice a day and your skin feels tight and itchy, it's probably too much. However, moms have this annoying skill which means they're right a lot of the time.

I think perhaps you should use it twice daily on the weekends, once in the week, and see if you notice differences.

I think she's right about using it night, because your body does most of its regeneration and healing then. You won't be walking around or talking or in any smoggy air so your skin will be clean and clear all night and the wash can do its work.

Hope this helps!! x

Well, if you're skin is oily, you'll want to wash it more often. Water only kills around 65% of most germs. Twice a day sounds like a good rule of thumb. As many others have already mentioned, if your skin is dry, you may want to only wash it once. The goal is to try and not have overly dry or overly oily skin.

If your acne is not being effectively treated with this over-the-counter regime, it might be time to see a dermatologist. These docs are trained and educated to clear your acne effectively.

If you're not satisfied with the way your skin looks, why waste money on product after product that might kind of work, all the while continue walking around with acne and having it affect your self esteem. I don't know if this is how you feel or not and I don't mean to be presumptuous. But, sometimes a better option is to see a doc that has the knowledge to provide you with the most effective treatment.

If your skin is naturally pretty dry, you should just wash it with warm water in the morning and soap up at night. But if your skin is a little oily it would be okay to wash twice a day-you just don't want to dry out your skin. Also, if you have acne, don't scrub too hard or too often because your mom's right, it will irritate the acne and dry it out too much. oh! and gently scrub in circles when you do!

Well I guess it's okay as long as you moisturize afterwards
Be sure not to wash your face more than twice a day as it will irritate your skin.
If you want just massage your face with at least 1/3 of the recommended portion in the morning
And clean your face as normal at night

Well, it all depends on your skin type.

If you have really oily skin, then i would do it 2 times a day, but if you have dryish skin, only once or it will be to harsh. And even if you really want to do it twice, but it drys out your skin you can always put on a oil-free moisturizer after wards.
