absolutely, if it had been a Hendrick car, you would have never heard anything about it.

Read more on the story and you'll find that this isn't a mistake. Sure, Tony Eury will say that....but the inspectors said that it was a blatant violation. The car passed the day before, and failed the next day...meaning that something was changed out.

If you think that NASCAR makes these penalty assessments in a vacuum, you're an idiot. And if you think that they play favorites, you're an even bigger idiot. Dale Jr. is by far the fan favorite..... Fan favorites make NASCAR the most money.....so they obviously aren't playing favorites by handing out this penalty.

The rule book stated that ANY violation to certain parts of the car would be dealt with in this manner, and this information was given to the teams well in advance.

NASCAR came down hard on his Team for two reason.

1) It was the first time anyone was caught cheating with the COT.

2) I saw the prerace show and they showed a split screen of his wing and the one on the Speed Channel car and it wasn't even close. It was a diliberate violation of the rules....extremely deliberate.

Oh wow, this just dawned on me. What is Eury Jr. was pissed about Junior leaving DEI. Hey with all the conspiracy theories floating around right now....might not be that big of a stretch.

I agree that if you get caught cheating, then you have to be held accountable. That being said, I feel that the penalty is way too severe compared with what MW did at Daytona. The fine and crew chief suspension is bad enough but 100 point loss is way off base. And you do bring up a valid point with Jimmie Johnson not having lost points when his crew chief got caught cheating big time last year and other times.

My thought is the infraction is one which they said was an aero advantage and done to gain that. One of the biggest factors of the COT was to take aero out of the equation as much as possible so it would be a hot button issue for NASCAR. Also, I think they want to send a strong message not to cheat with this car it just won't be tolerated. As much as Jr's been whining about the COT not working well and then to have them caught trying to cheat the aero I think NASCAR just had to really come down on them.

I agree with BIZZ. Maybe you should actually read some of the articles and see why the penalty was so severe. They doctored the part after it had passed prequalifying inspection. It was a blatant attempt at a performance advantage, as blatant as what Michael Waltrip's team tried. And the crew chiefs at the beginning of the year were suspended for 4 weeks, not 3.

I'm am getting tired of it, those penalties are way to harsh all because of a mistake, those crews who were suspended at Daytona only got a 3 races suspension, and Dale Jr's crew a 6 week, that is not fair

Punishment way too harsh... The brackets were legal a few weeks ago, Jr's crew just didn't realize they had changed the rules AGAIN... This Car of Tomorrow is getting ridiculous... NASCAR's present to Jeff Gordon if you ask me...

That is very severe. The other crew chiefs that got suspended at the beginning of the season only got suspended for 3 races. And only 50 driver points (aside from Michael Waltrip).

Nascar said there would be no leniancy with the COT rules. You break the rules, you pay the price. Dosn't matter if you are the Nascar golden boy.
