I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on my laptop before selling it. However, when I go through the setup it tells me to choose from a list that shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on my computer.

So I have 76317 MB total size on this partition(the following is exactly what it says):
"C: Partition1[NTFS] 76317 MB ( 66526 MB free)"

I want to reinstall windows, so I choose the option that says "Set up windows XP on the selected item."
But then when I press enter on it, it then tells me this:
"You chose to install Windows XP on a partition that contains another operat. syst. Installing Windows XP on this partition might cause the other operating system to function improperly.

CAUTION; installing multiple operating systems on a single partition is not recommended.

To continue Setup using this partition, press C.
To select a different partition, press ESC."

So the issue I'm worried about is, if I continue Setup using this partition, will it result in two Windows OS?

that is ok, once you slect the partition you must format it , you will be offered this option in the next few pages, just make sure to format the partition in NTFS format and the installation will go fine

No. You'll end up with one. But you have backed up the current copy of the operating system - HAVEN'T YOU?

You'd be much better off restoring your laptop from a recovery disk than attempting to overwrite the existing O/S - one that already has a more current version since it's the recipient of God-only-knows-how-many Microsoft patches.

Besides... overwriting a more current version of the O/S without wiping the disk can lead to MANY unanticipated problems.

you have a hidden restore partition do not use it, don't delete it. this partition holds all the systems drivers/ software/ and may be windows install. this is the factory setting,

check with the manufactures first. read the manuals

don't do anything untill you know what the second partition is

There should be an option to install a fresh install. If not then get a boot disk and format the laptop HD.
