I agree with you -- shoes come off when I'm at home. One thing I really am picky about is my feet -- they have to be soft. I keep them that way by using a simple pumice stone bought at any drugstore. Don't use it right after you shower as your skin is too soft. Use it before you bathe. Afterwards, use a fair amount of vaseline, and as odd as it sounds, put on a pair of cotton socks to keep it from being messy. Go to bed, or go about your day. You'll be surprised at how soft your feet will be.....and you won't have to spend a forture on products that will do the same as this simple remedy. I've been doing it for years and have no complaints.

I go barefoot full-time, I use no creams or moisturizers or anything, and my feet aren't that rough. They're quite *tough*, but it's a leathery toughness and only rarely do the edges of my heels or the callouses on my big toes get a bit rough, very, very occasionally I'll use a foot file (Bodyshop, I think that brand is sold in the US too?) on them, and only to smooth them, not to sand them down. Possibly because I barefoot on asphalt and other rough surfaces as well it wears it off naturally most of the time, but it could depend on skin types as well, I'm not sure. I've heard of other full-time or almost full-time barefooters who've had some trouble with cracks and who've used bag balm and coconut oil with good results.

I walk barefoot a lot, too. It's hard to resist the cool grass on your feet.
But, it is virtually unavoidable to go around without calluses. There are skin mosturisers that claim to help, but I know my experience that they're fudging it.
Embrace your feet for what they are! Be proud that you dare enough to walk barefoot, an you won't mind anymore!

My horses feet are lots extra suitable now I on no account even would desire to apply elementary boots any further.

I use a footbath, usually at the same time I do my manicure, so I can soak for a decent period of time. I put a mineral bath powder in there, which loosens up the dead skin cells, then use a pumice on my heels and any other callous spots. Use a lanolin-type lotion and you're done!

A good soak in Johnson's Foot soap. Makes your feet feel sooo good. You can rub rough skin off with a towel, after a good soak.
