I'm a Christian and am against abortion, but am for a woman's right to choose.
The law of Moses said Thou shall do no murder and this is a commandment from God.
When the rich man died and poor Lazarus died the rich man asked Abraham if he could go tell his brothers so they won't end up in hell like him, but Abraham said, They have Moses and the prophets, if they won't hear them, they won't hear you.
My point is if women don't care what the law of Moses said not to murder, and God doesn't violate their freewill to kill, who am I to tell them not to get abortions?
If they don't listen to God why would they listen to the Religious Right? Or the Moral Majority?
Only Jesus can change hearts and no law man makes will change anyone.
If you think it is right to force women NOT to get abortions, where do you have scripture to back up your forcing women to do as you say?

Whether we make laws or not is NO guarantee that anyone is going to obey them. People not only get abortions, they rob, lie, molest kids, murder innocent people. My point is you can't force people to serve the Lord Jesus. If they got saved, then they will NOT get an abortion.
Only Jesus can change a heart, not the republican party.

Sorry to tell you with your way of thinking you are "NO" Christian.

A Christian means one who follows Christ, do you really believe that the Biblical Christ would have said to a woman,

"yes honey it is your body and you go right ahead and have all the sex you want to and get pregnant and then suck the little thing out with the vaccume or burn it up with salt or wait until the doctor gets it 3/4 of the way out and then he can stab it in the back of the head and suck it's brains out, it is your freewill to do that and I won't tell you that you are sinning."

I am a Pastor for over 30 years and if that is what you Think Jesus would say then (I) want nothing to do with YOUR JESUS.

I am sure that you gave your missive considerable thought before posting it. However, I have a problem with your first statement on a number of levels, “I'm a Christian and am against abortion, but am for a woman's right to choose.”

You can be a Christian OR you can be “for a woman’s right to choose” you cannot be both; it is inconsistent. Additionally you use terms that while not un-Christian in and of themselves are used in an offensive manner much as a non-Christian would.

As to “Thou shall not kill” that is a Commandment from God, not a law of Moses. Abortion is the killing of innocents and is a sin. That being said there are times when a moral judgment must be made in this matter. When a woman is raped, when the conception is a result of incest or when the Mother’s physical health is endangered to the point of possible death. It can be said that in the above instances that “killing” may be justified as it is in war and the death penalty for criminals. (And no I am not comparing a fetus to a criminal or enemy combatant; only the justness of the act)

A “woman’s right to choose” encompasses the thought that women because of their child bearing nature also have the authority to terminate that child for ANY reason they deem proper. That currently includes a list of “social concerns” including “I don’t want a child.” There is no justness in that statement, only greed (another sin btw).

I don’t consider it “forcing a woman to not have an abortion” I consider it forcing a woman (and I do not lay all the responsibility on her, there was a male involved who is just as responsible) to take responsibility for her actions.

As far as scriptures go Ex 20:13 works well for me. It is not “me” forcing women to do what I say. It is a moral imperative and to it is backed up by secular law against murder; the courts will validate it in due course.

I believe that abortion is very wrong. I understand if a girl has been raped or for her to go into labor it would put her own life in danger, but this is the only acception. That baby has a heart beat, has so much potential, and isn't even given a chance at life. There are so many women out there who would do just about anything for a baby, but for whatever reason they can't get pregnant. And then there are the fools who screw around, get pregnant, and then kill the baby because they don't want it. I belive that we all have a choice, and many women who get abortions feel no regret for what they have done. Though there might not be proof in scriptures to force them to give up abortion, I belive that the laws state clearly that murder is a crime, and that should be enough.

I am against abortion and I am a Christian. You ask me where it says in scripture that we are to "force" women to do what we say. It doesn't -- but all over scripture we are told to encourage people to follow God. Also in Proverbs 31:8 - it says "we are speak up for those who cannot speak up from themselves". And wouldn't you say that babies in the womb cannot speak for themselves. A woman can choose to do anything that she chooses yes, but in Ezekial says that we are to warn those who are going astray- and then we will not be held accountable. If we do not warn, we will be held accountable. How would you answer this question. Let us say a newborn baby was killed after birth- would you say the same thing- it was the choice of the person to kill the newborn baby- no you would speak out and pray that they were convicted. The unborn child is no different except smaller and not born yet. We all need to think about the consequences of sin- it is not just on the person who commits it. Someone once said, "the fastest way to spread evil, is for a good man to do nothing".I will rephrase that since as a Christian there is no good man apart from the Lord. "The fastest way for spread evil, is for born again Christians to set back and do nothing".

I'm against all homicides, and I don't think some should be allowed simply because the victim has the misfortune of being in the wrong woman's body. Do you think it's right to force people NOT to molest children? I doubt you have any scriptures to back that up.

UPDATE: Yes, obviously there are people who don't obey every law, but I still think it might be a good idea to have laws. I'm just guessing there may even be democrats who agree with me about that. And my dream in having laws isn't to turn people to Jesus, though I'd love to see that happen, it's to try and prevent people from doing terrible things.

i'm for it as long as that is carried out humanely and intelligently. There are basically some situations the place abortion is best suited for the guy. If i've got been raped (it is the style you're meant to spell it my expensive) or a sufferer of incest there's no way i ought to bypass with the aid of with having the toddler. I"d particularly die. and for some having a toddler ought to destroy their destiny and their destiny toddler's destiny. I genuinely have vowed to never have a toddler except I genuinely have began a great sized college fund for the toddler simply by fact i've got faith that doing in any different case might make me an not worth mom. and in some situations being pregnant and the act of giving beginning ought to genuinely kill the mum of the two mom and toddler. Orphanages are finished sufficient of undesirable infants as is. and in spite of the undeniable fact that there are lots of people who elect infants yet cant have them, lots of those couples seem for a toddler distant places. i'm in spite of the undeniable fact that against severe abortions, question marks, ignorant people, and spelling errors. Oh and bringing God into the equation. This has not something to do with him and that i'm particularly particular he might dislike being dragged into the brawl. *and for the affection of all it is Holy that is spelled RAPED! not RAPPED!!!!!!!! I pray to god that i never elect to work out it back.

I believe it is murder, but that is my opinion. My objection against abortion is the hypocracy of the law. They can't make up there mind whether it is murder or not. If it's not murder, release the people in jail who have caused a baby to abort, such as in an accident. If it is murder, arrest the doctors who perform abortions and outlaw them. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I am pro choice..

Each woman needs to choose for herself... Only the woman who is pregnant knows her situation..

I could state this moment "I am pregnant and going to have an abortion." There would be countless people for and against but neither group knows my unique set of circumstances and my situation...

If however I were to tell the circumstances.. I am 37, I have 3 children, I am a breast and cervical cancer survivor.. My last pregnancy nearly killed me and my daughter.. I have been given a 5% chance of surviving another pregnancy with the fetus having a 2% chance of making it to viability before being spontaniously expelled (miscarriage).. I have had my tubes tied, my husband has had a vasectomy.. We have done everything short of celibacy (not gonna happen) to avoid getting pregnant... Yet we have had a couple scares with me approaching menopause (I am premenopausal) and my periods are irregular..

See circumstances matter a lot... We as strangers do not know the circumstances of another woman and therefore are unable to make her choice for her based on our own circumstances. Only she can make that decision and I will fight for her to have the right to make that choice.....

A cause (such as rape, etc.) does not justify murder.

Funk & Wagnall's Dictionary defines abortion as “a miscarriage produced artificially.” Why is abortion wrong? Abortion is wrong because life is a gift from God. Genesis 1:27 points out that God made man in His image and He placed the spirit of man in him at conception, not at birth. Therefore, to take that life deliberately is murder. How do we know life begins at conception? The Bible tells us so. There is a Greek word, “brephos,” which is found eight times in the New Testament. Thayer's Greek Lexicon says it refers to “an unborn child, embryo, fetus, a newborn child, an infant, a baby.” It refers to the child in the womb, as well as to the child outside the womb. There is no distinction.

In Luke 1:15, John was said to be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. "And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit”(Luke 1:41). Here was the meeting of Mary and Elisabeth. The angel had appeared to Mary and told her that she would conceive, "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus” (Luke 1:31). Then in verses 36 and 37 we read: "Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible." Then verses 39 and 40: "Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth." These are the verses leading up to the verse 41 previously quoted which says that the babe “leaped in her womb.” The babe (the “brephos”) leaped in her womb! That is a significant statement. Yes, life begins at conception and not at birth.

Is the unborn child alive or dead? There is no question about the fact that he is alive. Is he animal or human? He is human. Is he endowed with a spirit from God? Yes, the unborn child possesses an eternal, immortal spirit. “Let us make man in our image,” the Bible says. Man is made in the spiritual image of God, with an immortal spirit. That spirit certainly is within that child before he is born.

An Old Testament passage which reinforces the fact that abortion is a form of murder is Exodus 21:22-25. This is legislation pertaining to a situation in which an unborn child might be harmed. "If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman's husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give ‘life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.’”

"If she gives birth prematurely," when this struggle occurs, “and no harm follows,” means the woman had a miscarriage, but there was no loss of life. In that case, the one causing the miscarriage paid a fine according to what the husband determined. But the text says, "if any harm follows,” meaning the mother or child died, then, it was "life for life.” The one who caused the death of the mother or the unborn child paid with his life. How could there be a clearer passage revealing how God views the unborn child? He is a child created in the image of God, while yet in the womb. To take that life by abortion in order to end an unwanted pregnancy is murder! Murder is sin!

I am Christian and I do not support abortion, in particular late term abortion as a primary form of birth control.

I am also pro-choice. I do not want the government dictating my reproductive decisions because it leaves the door WIDE open for MORE intrusions as "human life" will become more and more closely defined and include not only human beings, fetuses but embryos and sperm and eggs.

Many of those who are strongly anti-choice are also anti-contraceptive and anti-sex education yet are also anti-funding for after school programmes, child welfare, social services programmes and that SCARES me. I also find it hypocritical.
