summer break - would be our winter break in queensland.
2007/8 school holidays are:
23 june - 8 july
22 sept - 7 oct
15 dec - 28 jan 2008
also many tourists from the southern states - i.e. cold in our winter lol! come to qld during their school holidays
so Victoria holidays are: 30 june - 15 july 07 and 22 sept - 7 oct
new south wales - 30 june - 15 july 07 and 29 sept - 14 oct
in this way the holiday season is extended in places like the gold coast making it easier/cheaper to get accommodation
qantas is not what it used to be quality wise - they are part of a sharing alliance in which 3 airlines could be amalgamated into one flight so you never know whose airline you end up flying with until you arrive at the airport.
keep in mind the great distances to travel in australia between interesting tourist places. book airflights instead of bus or train to travel along the east coast esp if you only intend to be here for 3 weeks. also learn the road rules - we drive on the left side of the road here.

The school question and the Qantas question has already been answered, so I won't bore you with that ;)

For the outlets, just buy a universal adapter/converter...this will work in pretty much any country in the world, and will only cost about $15 for a decent one.

Make sure you drink LOTS of water on the flight over. It'll help combat jetlag :)

school breaks up just before Xmas and goes back end of Jan
Qantas is a great airline you will have an enjoyable trip.
depending where your coming from as to a power converter, Australia uses 220 power not 110 like the states and the plug is different

everywhere and everywhere. it is like asking what portion of the united states of a or Europe is the best trip trip spot. Australia is larger than the two one among them. examine something approximately Australia and then come to a variety what you desire to work out. i've got lived right here for 50 years and have seen lots of it yet there is often greater to work out.

With power points, Australian power is 220-240v 50hz while the USA is 110v 60hz. The converter will change the voltage but not the frequency so American appliances will run slower in Australia.
