Whenever a question is asked about religion.... a generalisation.
It is usually only the Christians that say they are the only ones with the 'true' religion. Why is this?
Are the rest of us, whatever our beliefs or disbeliefs, more 'enlightened'?

Get off your soap box Cheryl!! You are way off the mark with your assessment of me!! And if you had taken a moment you would have understood that I was talking about Yahoo Answers not the whole world. You are very defensive which makes me think your analysis is closer to your character than mine!
To those of you who are having to put up with these extra notes, I apologise but I am unable to defend my point by any other means!! :)

why are you generalizing Christians, claiming they usually will say that.
They don't.
And have you meet enough Christians, and personally know them well enough to claim how we would answer a question? Or what we claim is true?
Oh wow. You taught Sunday school!!
so that means you've traveled the world and went to different cities and met all kinds of Christians???
Umm..No sorry your experience was so bad, but small towns can be a *****...
Oh no I am not generalizing. It is basic Psychology...You speak of Christians, like using the words "Christians Usually" which indicates that It is normal for you too be around Christians, Now if you were from a City, Or have traveled, You will have been exposed to alot more culture and religion, then Christians, Therefore you wouldn't generalize Christians, Because you will have seen alot more religions claiming to be true, even science claiming to be true.
Now why would it be Christians? Because most small town in the united states has more christians then any other religion, with many different denominations....
So I can tell that you worked in a sunday school, and you had a problem, More then likely, you felt as though Christians were not what they seemed, that is because you seem to attack them.
Unfortunalty, you did not know you religion very well, because you would have known that no one is perfect and it clearly states we will have problems in our lives and we will have enemies, but because you turned your back on your faith, it wasn't faith at all, It was probably something more like socializing for you....
I may not be 100% correct, but more then likely I am more right then wrong....

There are more Christians in the Enlish Language (or American, or whatever part you're on) of this site, so you'll see that sort of thing from more Christians party for that reason.
I've seen others say the same, though.
But it does seem to be a big part of Christianity to run around telling everyone else THEY have to believe, too.
But that said, there are a lot of open-minded Christians in the world.
We all tend to notice and focus on the obnoxious posts, and ignore the more reasonable.
(I've seen questions, that got reasonable answers, but the asker comments "all I got were loonies" -- well, no; you got a lot of loonies, why don't you see any of the non-loony answers?)

I wish I knew - I am embarrassed to call myself Christian because I automatically get lumped into a group of haters. There are those who read the Gospel message as "Love one and other" and try to live by example. God is bigger than religion, each person will find the path that works for them. The desire to be right seems to me to be the true evil. There is a tremendous irony there, and one that raises the ire of the doubtless belivers.

well there wrong, at least those who think that, the bible on which they base it, does have some facts that can be proved, but it also has lots that can be proved wrong, there is also a lot that common sense can tell you it has been misunderstood, after all it was written by man many years after most things took place, there are also many mistakes when it was translated, example of this is the Hebrew text never said anything about a Virgin mother for Christ, before anyone gives it the thumbs down check it out, it states a young woman, I'm not saying she wasn't a virgin but it never said it.

THE HOLY BIBLE SAYS,
Use your faith to find God
Heb:11:5: By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Heb:11:6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Heb:11:7: By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Heb:11:8: By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb:11:9: By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb:11:10: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Heb:11:11: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Heb:11:12: Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Heb:11:13: These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
WE HAVE A CHOICE,LIFE OR DEATH? OUR CHOICE

I think all of us who completely believe in a religion would have to be pretty sure within ourselves that its the true one or we wouldn't believe in it in the first place. So basically, I'd say if you believe in a religion that you don't believe is the "true" one, enlightened is the last thing I'd call you.

Belief is a state of mind, a mental condition that does not rely on proof or tangible evidence. Thus ALL the many religions have believers, but NO provers ! True enlightenment involves understanding the human condition in its entirety, not just the contents of one book.

I'm sure anyone who has a strong faith in their religion would be the same not just "the Christians". to them that is the true religion they believe in. And no it's not interesting.

Christians dictate their lives by one thing. The bible. Never mind that the bible is 2000 years old written by MAN and is outdated. If you have the bible you are the only true religion, because the bible says you are! Circular reasoning at its best. I don't think we are more enlightened. We see the bible for what it is. A book. Nothing more, nothing less.
