He was so aggressively hateful in life, and regularly went in public expressing numerous deadly sins (most notably pride, wrath and envy- remember when he said Billy Graham was the tool of Satan?). He branded his opposition not as people who disagreed with him, but as people who were sinful and wicked and evil. He seemed to seek every opportunity to seize the spotlight and milk it to his own personal gain; he established an (unaccredited) university to carry on his work, and he has stabbed close friends and former colleagues in the back the second they have become unpopular (witness what he did with Jim Baker). And the whole time, he said he was doing it all in Jesus' name.

If there is a hell, this guy is a prime candidate, right?

You're asking about heaven and hell in the Christian sense, so I'll answer you with a Biblical perspective:

I don't know.

You see, the Bible is clear: you don't go to heaven for being good...and you don't go to hell for being bad. We're all bad, and God doesn't grade on a curve. Nobody is good enough to go to heaven...God designed things that way on purpose.

What is it that determines where you go when you die? Well, as we read in 1 Corinthians 5, it's whether you're reconciled to God...not whether you've been good enough.

The Bible also says that those who have the Son (Jesus) have life, and those who don't, well...don't. Was Falwell an idiot sometimes? You bet he was. So am I, and (I'm confident of this one) so are you, sometimes. That's not what God judges you by.

Was Falwell reconciled to God? I really couldn't say. Years ago, it seemed that he was. Later in his life, he appeared to be so ignorant of real Christianity that I began to doubt it. I'll be surprised, I'm sure, at who IS and who is NOT in heaven when I get there.

Will you get there to find out for yourself?

Your claim that LU is "unaccredited" is totally inaccurate as is the lie about Jim Baker (he took over PTL and tried to make it work but its financial situation was too far gone to salvage)

No matter what you think about Rev. Falwell’s politics you must acknowledge that he was a good man and a Godly man. He lived by three precepts: "Is it ethically correct? Is it biblically correct? Is it morally correct?" He never compromised his belief or his principles.

The fact that you may not agree with his positions on abortion, homosexuality, pornography and bans on school prayer does not make him evil. He did much good in life and made a positive impact on the lives of millions. In addition to his ministry he built a University, Christian elementary schools, homes for unwed mothers and a home for alcoholics.

To those who would denigrate his character I would ask, “What positive contributions have you made in this life?” Rev. Falwell was clear in his vision and staunch in his values; he did not waiver and in the final analysis this world is a little poorer today.

My wife summed it up thusly, “If you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything at all.”

I generally don't believe it's our business to know who's in Hell and who isn't. It wouldn't hurt my feeling to find anyone in Heaven that I thought should be in Hell, even Hitler.

He's in whatever place his own beliefs and delusions have created- it might be hellish or it might be heavenly. Either way it's an illusion- enlightenment is the only true reality.

The Lord has already decided Falwell's eternal destiny, and He answers to no one in here.

If there was a hell he'd be there. Unfortunatley he has finally realized there is no God, or Jesus, or heaven.... just emptiness!

It is not our place to judge. Only God can judge what was in his heart and soul, not us.
