Sounds to me like your boyfriend has a swollen or infected lymph node. We have them all over the body to help absorb infection. Sometimes when we have ear infections the nodes behind the ears gets swollen and enlarged. The step to take is to let a physician look into the ears, if an infection is noted then antibiotics can clear it up. As for the part about modern medicine, I can only hope that he changes his mind and see a doctor.

This does sound like enough to take notice over.
could be a boil, or carbuncle, or lipoma. ( a benign tumor of fatty tissue).
If he doesn't seek medical attention, what are his choices? when in need of medical advise?/ treatment that is acceptable for him and his family? ..
that is the major concern..
some need to be treated with antibiotics, or depending on other diagnosis, lanced open and packed , or nothing but let time and it take it's course.
the wrong home treatment could make a problem worse.
there are at home remedies used for hundreds of years.. however, one needs to KNOW what is what first..
does he accept seeing a natural pathetic doctor?
that would be my best next bet, given the info given me..
an evaluation, isn't TREATMENT of in a sense.
that seems the first step . Evaluation , know first .. you can't treat what you don't know... right?

It could be a cyst.

Strangely enough a slice of garlic on a wart with a bandaid over it for a few days , kills the wart and it falls off. You could try it for a potental cyst. I certainly won't hurt him.

We got rid of a wart on my Grandaughters finger a few months ago. It turned black and came right off.

I don't know, but perhaps if his parents actually saw what was behind his ear they would be willing to let him see a doctor..if not, I hope he turns 18 very soon so he can seek help on his own.

You're asking for a diagnosis which cannot be done online and second-hand at that. There's really nothing you can do about this given your boyfriend's religious beliefs.
