It's whatever you're most comfortable with, as far as I'm concerned. If you're happy, ready, and comfortable with it, there's no point in trying to stop you, right? Besides, you only got one life to live - live it to its fullest.

Acceptable by society really isn't important. What matters is whether or not you've fully dealt with the death of your wife. No one really knows the answer to that except for you. There is a good book by the same guy that writes the Mars and Venus series--I know, sounds cheesy. But it's called "Mars and Venus Starting Over." It's geared toward those who've lost loved ones due to death or divorce. It may help you realize if you're really emotionally ready, and help you through those steps you haven't been through yet. Men do tend to get into relationships before they're fully ready, for whatever reason. Be careful not to rush into something just because you are lonely or feel you "should" be over your wife. You will only end up getting hurt and hurting the person you get into a relationship with.

that being said, a friend of mine whose wife was sick for nearly a year before she passed away (they knew she was terminally ill the whole year), started dating a wonderful woman only about 6 months after his wife died. They are now engaged and seem very happy! And no one really seems to be judging them.

I have heard it said that people who have had a happy marriage tend to date or re-marry sooner after the death of the spouse.

I am sorry for your loss. I have had some scares and concerns for my wife lately but all will work out I am sure.

I dont think society in general would think much. Possibly a close friend may have a different opinion. With society the way it is as a rule, I dont want it dictating to me what is acceptable.

I think men probably would date sooner anyhow. Probably because we know we are only half without the other. God bless you and your future.

The right time is when you are ready. If you think you are ready to start something new without bringing lingering feelings into the new relationship then go for it. You should also make sure that the new person you are dating is willing to understand that at times you might feel sad or think about your wife and be ok with that and be able to help you through it. I would just take it slow. Good luck.

As you particularly know, life can be short. Why waste it worrying what society will think? Society is a bunch of wacked degenerates anyway! Go for it!

I'm sorry for your wife's passing. To answer your question, I would say you should wait at least a year.

When you feel it is right with you it should not really be anyone else business. You knew your wife better than anyone so what would she have said ?

It doesn't matter what society thinks, what matters is what you are ok with. Make sure you are emotionally ready.
