OK, I know I should've stopped going to them after Nissan screwed up my Nissan once. The first time, I had a '01 Nissan Sentra. I went for a simple oil change.. and they didn't tighten the cap back on tight enough. I did not even realize this until one of my hour drives.. when my car died on me... and my engine also died. So we had to get a new engine and after that, the check engine soon light came on and they keep wanting to charge us more for service. Then, when I got my '01 Nissan Maxima, I had issues with the brakes a year later.. which is generally when brakes need to be changed. Anyway, they changed brakes and the oil and some other things... and it all costed $1,000!!! That's really pricey for brakes. Then my car recently had issues with funny noises.. right after they had supposedly fixed my car. Well now, they want to charge another $935 or maybe even $1,800 if what they replace the first time isn't good enough. Supposedly it is something to do with motor mounts. GAH

And also, do motor mounts really cost so much that it's going to cost $935 just to replace it? I feel like they're intentionally doing this so I have to keep going back and shell out money to fix my car!

I don't think so.

Nissan Express Services

Quick Services
You can take advantage of Nissan Express Service for filter and oil change, tire rotations, battery or air filter service, wiper blade replacement, and some of your regularly scheduled maintenance. You may even get to take your Nissan in for a few other tasks through Nissan Express Service, such as tire alignment, brakes, or new tires, but you should ask your dealership about these first. No matter the service you have done, the trained technicians will also do a multipoint inspection so you know that nothing is wrong. At the end, you get a 27-point report that lets you know your vehicle’s overall health.

No Appointments
Not only is Nissan Express Service fast, but you don’t even need to make an appointment. If the service isn’t completed in the time specified, you will receive the next visit for free. When you have a busy day, you can still choose to schedule your service with an appointment if you want, but it isn’t necessary.

I've owned 4 Nissan cars now and the dealers I have dealt with have always been reasonable with me. Now when my wife has taken the cars in, the story changes. Mechanics/service techs still seem to treat women differently then men (not just at the Nissan dealerships).

Positive experiences:
- I've been able to get "shop bolts" for free for my 1985 Sentra when I ran into a problem with engine mounts.
- Convinced the service tech that charging labor to install the air filter was not reasonable given it only takes about 30 seconds to replace. Told them I'd take the part and do it myself and the tech said they could do it at no charge.
- Numerous diagnostic checks without charge, even with telling them that I'd do the repairs myself (up front) and just wanted diagnostics from them before attempting the repair.

As for the service maintenance that cost $1000, they offer several levels of service depending on what you want or can afford. The most basic level is generally significantly cheaper but it won't cover changing things like all fluids (transmission) until a later period (say 30,000 miles instead of 20,000). Just an FYI on the brakes, you can generally pads for less than $30, rotors can be cut at the shop (forget the rate as I don't do this very often myself). A bottle of brake fluid (if it needs any) is less than $10 too. Now the time for the tech should be around 30-45 minutes per side so figure their labor rate plus parts and the rotor cut and it should be less than $200. The $1000 you spent must have included the tune up (possibly a reprogram of the engine) and flushing of fluids.

I haven't dealt with any motor mounts beyond the rubber ones but I can't imagine them going on your 2001 Sentra yet. I'd definitely get a second opinion on that repair. I'd also recommend taking a mechanically knowledgeable person with you when faced with any major repairs.

The dealer you are dealing with can't be that great. A brake job on a sentra shouldn't cost anywhere near 1000. I would assume around 600, FROM THE DEALER. From the problems you described, i would take it to another nissan dealer. The problem is with the service people at that shop and not the brand as a whole. As for the motor mount, 900 and change definatly seems high, i could see that if it was an electronic mount like on the maxima's but not for a chunk of rubber on a sentra. Find a new Nissan dealer to take your car to.

Think of it this way...The memorial service is a way to celebrate and honor the LIFE of the deceased, and what better way to do that than to show his loved ones how fondly he will be remembered? I once attended the memorial service for a friend's mother, whom I didn't know personally, but wanted to support my friend by paying my respects to HIM...and his relationship with his mother. While there, I noticed in another room there was a casket with a little boy in it, maybe around 6-7 years old...and no one sitting in the room but his parents...hunched over sobbing and clinging to each other in heartbreak...and completely and utterly alone. It was the most gut-wrenching thing I've ever seen! It may have been that what I had witnessed was the "family time" before the public comes for the viewing, but seeing the two of them all alone in their abject grief made me realize that the memorial service is more for the family than it is the deceased. You're not expected to, nor are you supposed to hold in your emotions at a memorial service... because that's exactly what they're for. Grieving someone's death makes their LIFE worth something. Pass the legacy he left to you, on to his family/loved ones. It will surely be something valuable to get them through this time. It will help YOU come to grips with it as well.

If it would have been me and they told me of the necessary repairs to be done, I would have gotten a second opinion to begin with to start.

Dealerships are out to make money, and can screw up for the simple fact that they are HUMAN.

While I, myself don't like dealerships, I still have to go to them from time to time for parts.

Find you a respectful and reliable mechanic and let them check your vehicle from now on.

Most dealerships can screw people for the simple fact that they are a dealership and the law will more than likely be on their side unless you can prove them WRONG!
