Ok. There is no school to become an under cover officer. That is a position you have to earn though the department you work for. I observed an answer that stated something like most departments dont require a degree and that follow officers would look down on you if you had a degree. Thats is simply not true. MOST departments require an associates degree. And most department require a degree to advance to higher ranks. The best way to become an undercover officer is through hardwork and good moral ethics.

A degree in CJ gets you a job as a street cop where you need to work for a year or two to get experience. Then you could test out and qualify for an undercover detective then. It's a good start at least.

As an officer for over 30 years and worked my share of undercover work...I can say that there are times when I'd have rather worked elsewhere.
To become an undercover officer, first and foremost you must become a certified officer within your state meeting the minimum requirements for what is referred to as the Police Officers Standards of Training (POST Certification).
Most agencies look for those officers who display maturity and knowledge in the area of which they will perform their undercover work be it general crimes, vice, or narcotics.
Although the basic academy does not normally provide training for undercover work, there are courses provided by the federal and state governments for advanced training in this line of work.
If you ever do succeed in your endeavors to become an undercover, I wish you the best!

since you've already had many good answers........
Go buy one of those cop kits at the stoy store and then rent Serpico at the video place. After watching this for days on end you now have received the training you need.
Seriously, most small towns don't have them or need them. big cities want you to be a cop for several years before you get to work undercover. A BA in CJ might help, depends on where you're going to work.
Learn the real job before you delude yourself in the fantasy.

undercover work is hard stuff. you will have to do a few years of uniform police work and then they usually select you for the undercover work
now a detective is different. they are not undercover, they just do not wear the uniform usually. they are usually part of the line staff for a long time before they test for a detective job

You need to apply to the Police Academy and to get to detective status takes many years. Did you apply to the academy or ask a cop?

save yourself the money of college since not only do most police department not require them but many of the cops within them actually will treat you bad if you have one (although this depends where you are)
go right into the police academy - you have to start at the bottom like everyone else...no matter if you have a degree or not...
