It all depends on what your interests are.
For some, a vacation would mean going to the beach and relax. But for me, I love expanding my mind . I love to see new places, visit museums, places of interest, see lovely sceneries that I cannot enjoy where I live because the geography of the region does not have these. But I have been on tours before and they are too fast-paced! They rush you from one place to another and you return home, yearning for another vacation , this time to rest!
The best vacation would be to go to places, at your leisure. To enjoy yourself and not be bored or get too cramped with too many places to see, it requires some planning.
I would go to the library, after I have chosen a State or country I want to visit and read, read, read....all about the State or country. Make plans on which places you would like to visit or see. Check out costs, do some research on the internet. Have a budget to work on. Look for the best deals. Get help from maps etc, Chambers of Commerce in the USA (if you plan to vacation in the States) can give you literature to help you. Plan and drive or plan, fly and drive (rent a car). If you are travelling alone , it is better to take those one-day tours in the city. I said tours rush you around because I was referring to multi-day tours. You can go to a city and then the hotel, if it's a good one in the heart of town, sometimes advertise for Grayline tours, which is a good company. Best is to travel with a friend and both take turns to drive. It will be less lonesome and not so dangerous.

I LOVE vacation, and can't wait for ours. We don't usually take a long (by long I mean a week) vacation, we usually have a few "mini" vacations on weekends in the summer. We go camping... I LOVE camping. I have a 10 yr. old and an 8 yr. old. They like camping because they get to stay up very late, and get to sleep with mom and dad in the tent. lol. We don't even travel far. Enjoy nature... the sunrise in the morning, crickets chirping at night... lol. :) The last camping trip I was on, I woke up early and the sun was just coming up... I looked across the pond and saw a deer drinking, and another eating blueberries. It was so pretty. I just stood there watching them for a while. :) We've also gone to niagra falls.. It was pretty. We did alot of walking there. It was nice just to be away from home. Although, i think my kids enjoyed eating pizza in the hotel room more than the falls! LOL!! Whatever you do, just enjoy it. Take in everything around you. :) Have fun. :)

I like to hike to the Waimoku waterfalls on Maui, and then hike down to the cliffs at the 7 pools. As a general thing I like to surf, body surf, and dive as much as possible.

Walk around or drive around town or country, seeing things. Laying out tanning or reading books at the beach is the worst thing. You can do that at home.
