I would just introduce him by his name and avoid titles altogether. If you've only been on a few dates and things aren't solid between you two, you probably don't need to make things more awkward by qualifying him as "my friend" or "my boyfriend" when you don't need to. Just say "this is Joe;" I'm sure your friends all know who he is anyway, and if they don't, you can explain to them later in a private setting.

I would just say hey this is my date blah blah. Then you wont have to say like if he is your friend, or boyfriend, you can just call him your date. Have fun at prom!
