(I went to see a psychiatrist a while ago who diagnosed me with panic disorder, but I decided against taking meds for it.)

Symptoms:
Every morning when I wake up, and for a few hours after that, I always feel like I'm going to pass out or something. I eat a good breakfast and even carry stuff around to have between classes, but I'll feel really dizzy, and as of recently, it's not really shortness of breath, but I'll feel like I can't take in a really deep breath of air. Every so often, I'll feel this lump in my throat.. not like a tight anxiety kind of lump, but it feels like dried mucus or something like that, and I don't know wtf it is. It also seems like if I'm just standing straight in one position for a long time, I get really lightheaded. Because of the anxiety, I think it caused GERD on the side, and I feel nauseated or just really awful in the pit of my stomach and get heartburn a lot also, and it sucks.

I just want to know if this would be worth getting checked out.

About 3 years ago, my son who was about 13 or 14 at the time, got very similar symptoms. He started with a migraine headache. Then he started with a lot of your symptoms: dizziness that almost never went away, upset stomach with nausea, insomnia at night, but tired during the day. He couldn't function and couldn't go to school for a very long time. We had all kinds of tests done and he saw several doctors. In the end, it all seemed to boil down to severe anxiety. Once he started Zoloft he started to calm down and feel much better. Anxiety is hard to control on your own and if it gets debilitating, it is probably good to try a medication to take the edge off. The lump and mucous could just be aggrevation to a post nasal drip and trying Claritin or Allegra might help alleviate that. Also, I think you can get acid problems if you are too stressed out or anxious (Pepcid might be worth a try). I'd say, per my experience with my son, that you could have an anxiety disorder. I would think that your primary doctor could give you a trial of medication to see if it helps you out. Best to you.

Your symptoms sound very much like anxiety. Before seeking medication for this, I would try this test. It involves your sugar. When you feel dizzy and lightheaded, always keep a soda and a candy bar handy. When the symptoms start, drink the soda as fast as you can, and eat the candy bar. For soda, choose a clear one like 7UP or Sprite, etc, and I have found that Reese's Cups are excellent for this type of thing. If you feel better in a couple of minutes, then it is sugar related. You then need to see a doctor for blood tests. If it doesn't help, you should see a doctor for anxiety. Before you go to the doctor, make a list of your symptoms. Most people forget half the symptoms when trying to explain them to a doctor.

To be honest, I think you have nothing but panic disorder. You have a small case of anxiety, and when you were diagnosed with panic disorder, your anxiety sky rocketed. You became nervous, and now you are in a state very similar to that of a hypochondriac. I agree with your doctor, take the meds for panic disorder.

Go back and see THE SAME doctor again and tell him THE NEW symptoms. Also ask about placebos.
