Well, I believe that David slew Goliath who was considered to be a giant (like many others who have rare forms of growth disorders) and I do believe that Jonah was swallowed by a big fish as stated in the Bible (within the last 200 years it has happened again in the British Isles and the gentleman that survived it was described exactly as the Bible described Jonah - white and covered in stomach acid, you should research a little more before asking these questions). As for Johna and Shamoo, I don't know who you are talking about.

What is so difficult to believe about a person being about 8 1/2 feet tall. Guinness has documented several in and beyond that range. That such a person would be sent to the front of the army to frighten enemies seems reasonable to me. Especially in a time when the person with the longest reach usually won the battle.

Check the book of Jonah again some time, and you will find that there is no mention of a whale swallowing Jonah anywhere in the book. It states that the animal was a large fish, and that he was specially prepared by God at that time just for the purpose of swallowing Jonah. So it exact size and specification is unknown. There have been cases of people being swallowed by large fish, such as killing "whales", who have survived for a short time within the animal and then been rescued. So it is not beyond the realm of possibility.

I like what the last poster said. Do you set the standard for common sense? Probably not. Did David slay a giant with a rock and a sling shot, and did Jonah spend three days in the belly of a fish? Most definitely.

Why couldn't David slay a giant? Yaou Ming is a giant by most people's standards. He's not that much shorter than Goliath. Who's Johna?

There are fish and whales living today that could do the job:
A few large breeds of sharks
the Giant Grouper
Blue whales, sperm whales, and others

And, since it is God we're talking about-why couldn't He create a fish or whale special for the occasion?

Not Shamoo, of course. Shamoo isn't old enough. The Jonah story is hard for me to believe, but I suspect it's probably true. I definitely believe David killed Goliath and that Goliath was a pretty big feller.

I don't think common sense and faith are mutually exclusive.

Yes, I believe David slew Goliath and Jonah was swallowed by a big fish. I also believe the donkey saw the angel and talked to his master. I also believe in Revelation where it says that all animals will raise their voices and praise God.

Revelation 5:13
"and every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them I heard saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever."

Don't ever sell God short. He is the Creator. He set the sun and the moon on their course around the unmoveable earth and God can make His creation PRAISE HIM just by showing up.

The earth is growning and quaking awaiting the Great Day of the Lord. All creation is waiting for the Lord.

Yes, David killed Goliath with a stone and Jona spent three days in the belly of a big fish because he was trying to run from God's will. Common sense has nothing to do with faith and the miracles that God can and does perform.

David slayed Goliath? why not. there are cases of gigantisis, several strains. why not? in a time when people were revered for their height, a giant would likely join the army and have a high rank.

Jonah was inside a fish/whale? why not. it's an equal possibility anyways. whales don't like lakes, they prefer salt-water, and a giant fish.... so yeah. why not.

common sense says not to waste 5 points

I do believe David slayed Goliath (the "giant") with a slingshot.
I do believe Jonah was swallowed by "a giant fish", but not necessarily a whale, and that he was in the fish belly for 3 days. The Bible doesn't say anything about it being a whale.

David did slay a giant, and Jonah spent three days in the belly of a whale.

Up until the voyages of Magellan and others, common sense stated the world was flat. So much for your sense of history and common sense.
