When you fill out a form, or need to indicate a choice on a web-page, you can tick the box or give a small mark to the one you need.

This is also called 'Check, please!'

Added,
Check also means control, so if it is said when working on something you are asked to see if your work is right or needs to be adjusted.
Like in the spell check we have on this site.

One more meaning, if you need to pay something and there are several options, 'check, please' can be a different spelling of 'cheque, please', asking you not to send cash nor credit card.

After finishing a meal at a restaurant, you will say to the waiter or waitress "Check, please!" to ask for the bill or check with the total amount to pay for the meal you enjoyed.

If you are in a restaurant, saying "check, please" means that you are ready to leave. In slang it means that "this is over" or you "want out".
