Only Homeless pets. I have a beagle, who was not wanted by his previous owners. I have two shelter dogs. Two cats I got as kittens so the owner would not bring them to the shelter and one cat I pulled out from underneath a house who was half dead. He is perfectly fine now. I just find animals so much more rewarding than people. Animals give unconditional love and people are not capable of doing that.

I give to the homeless.
I don't think that all homeless people lie, cheat, and steal.
This is a stereotype just like any other.
And we shouldn't stereotype anyone regardless of race, culture, social/economical class, religion, etc...
But I don't think negatively of those who don't give to the homeless or any other people who are impoverished.
The reason being because everything that we give is not equally disbursed.
We live in a capitalist nation. NOTHING is equal. Freedom is proclaimed, however NO ONE is actually free, because capitalism actually cancels out the very thing that people claim it is ensuring. Capitalism breeds poverity to ensure that the rich remain wealthy. And it creates a middle class in order to ensure a balance between the two for the sake of maintaining the wealth of the likes of people such as Oprah, Gates, Trump, etc....
The ONLY beef I have with people like your uncle is stereotyping. But as far as giving to the poor is concerned....
No biggie. You will achieve nothing for the impoverished as a whole by doing so (giving).

People can choose to give to whoever they want. I am sure that some, not all, homeless lie, cheat, and steal. I am almost certain he has had a bad experience with a homeless person. Make your own choice. What do you think of homeless people? I personally don't think anyone chooses to be homeless, and I think of how their life must have been for them to get there.

We had a local news bit on that the other night. They said that we can help the homeless more by giving to charities. Giving directly to the homeless encourages them to stay out of the shelters. If they went to the shelters they could be entered into programs to help them find jobs and homes.
Also, the article said that an overwhelming majority of the panhandlers were alcoholics or drug addicts.

Well! There is many homeless people in the world. But a lot of people take advanges of them because a person who is actually not a homeless they can dress up like bum and prentend to be homeless. So you never know which is real homeless and which is fake homeless. But you just need to watch for signs... like look at what kind of clothes they are wearing, where they are sitting, what they are eating, and those kinds of stuffs... if they are eating garbage, dirty everywhere, and sleeping in a box, then that's real homeless but you know most of homeless are at shetler, so techainlly you don't really need to give moneys to them. But it's nice for them, but you can actually waste your money that way.

I give to charities I rarely give to the homeless directly because some of them do the things your uncle says.

Desperate people sometimes do desperate things. Homelessness is cruel and unnecessary. We have the ability to eradicate it, and hunger, throughout the world. It's just a matter of will. Yes, I do my part to support homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and counseling for those who need but cannot afford it.

The Bible says to give to the least of these but it also says to be good steward of your money. I don't think that God would want for you to give your money to someone just for them to spend it on drugs or alcohol, but that is obviuosly not what EVERY homeless spends their money on. I think that you need to count on the spirit of discernment from God to make sure that you are making a right decision as with ALL decisions in life.

An occasional burrito, or some kind of food. But most importantly, I try to give them respect. If you keep beating people down, don't be surprised if they rise to the occasion once in a while!
Just lending them an ear, can sometimes make them feel human again.

To me , I would try to give to any one who stands on my door step with the ability, whether he is lying or not , thats not my job to find out , at the end how would I know !
If he is lying it is his sin , but still I would judged by my intentions that he is a needy person ...
If he is not lying or cheating , than I would be asked and demerited for not helping ... therefore I would give ..
In both ways, I am on the safe side ... And who are we to judge people and make ourselves as the ones who know everything and know peoples' intentions !!
