My daughter has horribly crooked bottom teeth, and is missing a baby tooth as well. The dentist has even told me to start putting away money for the orthodontist bills. Is there any reason for me to take her now for an orthondontic evaluation or do I need to just wait it out for a few more years? I just didn't want to miss out on any opportunities for early intervention that will help minimize the orthondonist bills down the road.

What do you mean she is missing a baby tooth as well, isn't every tooth in her mouth milk teeth? Milk teeth shape a child's mouth for between 3 ½ and 8 years. They have an important alignment and spacing function, which is why every effort should be made to keep them caries-free. If milk teeth are lost too early on, the position of the other teeth may be affected.

So to answer your question, yes, you can start putting away money for orthodontic care but I strongly recommend you wait a couple more years for things to play out. As a child my permanent teeth were pretty crooked (one on top the other) and without braces they moved into place. I am not saying this will happen with your child but she is just 3 ½, give her and her teeth time. Why would you put braces or retainers on teeth that are going to come out in a couple of years?

No you should not take her in anytime soon, although you will probably have to in the future. Orthodontist reccommend that you should bring your child in around the age of 7 or 8. The reason why is because this is when the adult teeth start to emerge. Your daughter is only 3 1/2 yrs old, all she has are baby teeth. Wait until she gets older the orthodontist probably could not do anything for her right now.

It would be time and money down the drain. All of these teeth will fall out by the time she is 7. The next ones are the ones to be concerned about.

My children both started at 10. A couple of years for my daughter and 6 for my son. He had huge problems.

They cannot make corrections on these teeth. But be saving that money. Save money and plan on payments for a few years. I always told my son I could have had a car for what his cost. But it was worth it, his teeth are beautiful.

Just an opinion, but she is only 3 1/2. She has not begun to get adult teeth yet. Why spend all of that money when all of those teeth are going to fall out. I would start when the baby teeth start to fall out and the adult teeth begin. That is when you want to make things right.

It is usually difficult to know if your child will need orthodontic treatment until your child is 7-8 and their permanent teeth start to come in. We recommend that you bring your child into the orthodontist when your child is 7 years old to evaluate whether treatment will be needed. Generally, the orthodontist will evaluate your child, and if your child needs treatment, the orthodontist will take corrective action to avoid costly and uncomfortable treatment later on.

I don't think there's much they can do....they are her baby teeth and they will fall out anyway. So what ever good and repositioning they do will be lose when her new teeth come in. You can go and see what they say...but you want to wait until she's older when she can help take care of her teeth.

Most orthodontists will do a complimentary consultation.

It is important to find out the cause of the crowding. Some diseases can, though it is rare.

A quick evaluation can resolve alto of concerns.
