My MD put me on Motrin 800's and this Skelaxin stuff because of severe muscle pain and tension in my back and neck. I was in a lot of pain. The Motrin helps, but I feel strange when I take Skelaxin. I've taken 2 doses, and I've experienced headache, severe stomach cramping, a little bit of nervousness or irritability, and then of course I feel sleepy, light-headed, and totally "out of it" when I've taken it. I've noticed I cant really think clearly while on it, it's like I'm confused or something, and my pulse is very slow, a lot slower than my normal heart rate would be. I'm not too sure I like how Skelaxin makes me feel. Are these things normal for this drug, or should I stop using it and tell my MD to give me something else? I definately cant take the recommended 3 or 4 pills a day, I've only taken one for the last 2 days, any more I dont think I'd be able to function at all. What's the deal with this stuff? Are the effects I'm having serious or nothing? Please help.

Whenever you have such severe symptoms, you should notify your doctor immediately. Next time, when you get your prescription filled, ask your pharmacist to provide you with the warning pamphlet that goes with the medicine. Sometimes the possible side effects are worse than the medical condition you already have.

I have a bad neck & shoulder. I cannot tolerate Skelaxin. It's hideous. I prefer Flexeril, it comes generic and is dirt cheap. I'd call your doc and ask if you can try another muscle relaxer, like Flexeril. Tell them the Skelaxin makes you feel too weird. You might want to take muscle relaxers at bed time only, or you might be able to function just fine on Flexeril during the day. I never took a whole pill at first, always start off with half and see how it makes you feel. You also should take it with food and a large glass of milk or water. You need a lot of cushion in your tummy for the Advil and the muscle relaxers.

You can add Tylenol to your Advil routine for extra pain relieft. I have a bad shoulder and take Advil every 6 hours, Tylenol every 4, muscle relaxer at bedtime when needed.

You might want to find someone that does massages in your area and let then know where your pain is, see if they will help you out. I love what that has done for me. Be prepared to go home and crawl into bed after a good massage - it'll take the tension away and allow you to have a big fat nap, sugar.

I would also ask your doc if they can send you to physical therapy for a few sessions, too. They can help ease your pain, teach you how to move without killing yourself, and even use massage as part of the treatment. I just adore my physical therapist, he makes me work hard but I'm 90% better because of him.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care.
