Just did a Basic this morning, YIKE, nothing on it, hahaaa, its liek a cut down version of XP Home. if you must go Vista, go Premium, but advice is , stick with XP.

Generally speaking unless you have a very 'buff' computer I wouldn't upgrade to vista on 'old hardware'

Basic -Does Not- have the Aero (glass) interface with it.

Vista home basic is essentially windows XP sp2 without drivers that work.

I use Vista Busniess 64bit myself and it works like a charm with new hardware.

If your just surfing I'd say stick with what your using now (assumingly windows XP) until you buy another system; then consider getting premium with it.

Cheers;

No, basic does not include the glass interface, but it does have all the other things you want.
Personally I would spend that little bit extra and get premium but its you choice.

Don't get vista yet. It's WAY too buggy. Give until it's been out a year (November) before upgrading. Premium has the cool new looking interface and media center. Is it worth $60 for cool new looking stuff? You decide. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions

Premium at the minimum, Ultimate if you are into gaming. Basic has nothing in it but the Vista name.

Actually in my opinion I wouldn't get vista. Vista has a tendency to make your computer freeze up a lot and it takes a lot of time, effort, and possibly money to get your computer fixed. If I were you I'd go with Windows XP Professional or I'd go with Windows XP Home Edition.
