I recently (1 week) ago switched to Linux. I am using Ubuntu 7.04 .

frankly i am very happy with it. if you have been using MS Windows for sometime and are well versed with it, this should be easy. and in case you have doubt, just google for help. there are open source communities and forums that are there to help you out.

the only problem that linux faces in general is installing software, you have to type in lines of codes. but with ubuntu, it is mostly taken care of in the package manager.

linux is far far more customizable that windows. and best of all free. only not wireless internet, atleast for me. i have linux on a laptop.

Yes, I use Free BSD.
It is totally totally different from Windows. The only similarity is that there is a program called Gnome ( or x-windows) that is a gui that looks similar to Windows.
Otherwise, you must know a lot about everything to get it working. First off, you don't just install it, you have to build out the features and options that you want. Secondly, most drivers are not easily available, so you have to be careful about the hardware you select to install. Third, it is unix, much like DOS, you have to know the commands.
All that being said, it is free, so download it, get some free manuals on the net, and start learning about it. It can land you big bucks someday if you are a pro at it.
good luck

It depends on the version. Some are fairly easy to learn others are not. Ubuntu, Kubuntu, SUSE, PCLinux and Sabayon are great for newbies.
