If you made a lie stupid enough, someone is bound to believe it.
This is because:
Person A: blah blah blah (says something outrageously stupid)
person B: How can someone invent something that is this unbelievable or absurd?
Person B: It must be true.
Your opinion on this?
Do you think that religion might be a reflexion of this kind of logic?

Yes actually I do believe that because in some ways that is why I believe in religion. If I was going to create a religion just to make it popular I would make it lenient, rewarding for everyone, simple to understand. Not with seemingly endless paradoxes and such. Which is why I do not think religion was invented.

No, I think you should rather go to misconception theory. The Annenburg/CPB project has a wonderful video called something like "A Private Universe." I recommend it. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with science education. However, misconception theory applies to all knowledge and shows why religions survive.

Please don't take this seriously !

If you happen to posess some knowledge that no one else has discovered - You can make a religion out of it :
1- Keep your knowledge for your self & protect at all cost
2- Perform rituals, magics.. that impress the mass
3- Speak strange language

...

Cheers

well you haven't done enough research and understanding behind just religion, any religion, just yet for this question to be any kind of logic.

No.

Because some people are willing to die over their religious beliefs. Nobody is willing to die over a made up lie.
