How about more info. What socio-economic group are you in? How old are you? What do they do?Travel, roller-blading, computer games, raising chipmunks?
One answer would be- an exotic trip-like burro -rides in the grand canyon. Or gym memberships for a year. Or a wine collection. Perhaps, a painting or a mask from Figi.
If you are of a lower income group, but talented, you might PAINT them a picture of their dreams together or make a CD of you singing their favorite songs. Or teach them to play the harmonica.
If you are of low means, and not talented, a nice expensive silver picture frame-from TJ MAXX -cheap -is a hot ticket.
A day horse-back riding or go-carting or at the zoo with YOU- would be great.
Give memories-not stuff. They will get plenty of stuff.
Congrats.

At my sisters wedding, all of the brides maids and the grooms men got together and paid for the honey moon. It ended up being 100 a piece but that was their wedding gift from us. They really enjoyed it and I would definitely do that again.

You could have both of them as your maids of honor. You really need to avoid hurting someone's feelings. My older sister didn't choose me as her maid of honor, even though I'm her only sister. She told me years ago that she wanted me to be her MOH, but I guess she changed her mind. She chose her best friend and I'm just a bridesmaid. She has 5 other bridesmaids and 2 junior bridesmaids, so I feel like I'm one of her many friends. I'm definitely hurt, but I haven't said anything to her. It's her wedding, so my thoughts and feelings don't really matter at this point.

I would try to get together a photo album/storybook of your friend and her future husband. From when they were babies until now. You could do a few pages of her and you, and him and his friends, and then when they met, and some souvenirs from the wedding (napkins with their names, newspaper announcements, etc). Leave some blank pages at the back for her to keep adding things.
This would definitely be a unique gift, and I'm sure that they will both treasure it.

I'm guessing the gift is for her and her husband? Or jut for her?
For her something personal, that you know she loves but would never buy for herself.
For the couple, a piece of crystal or something fun that they do together.
PS never buy knives for a best friend, there is an old wives tale that it will slice through a friendship, but if you do.. tape a penny on the blade, a knife cant cut through a penny, and it saves the friendship.

You know them better than we would... what would they like?
I tend to go with candlesticks, but for a close friend, that feels impersonal. I'm getting my one friend BBQ tools and a grilling apron - since I melted her grill back in college during a cookout. (Long story, but that's what makes the gift perfect for them, from me.)

you can give them the one thing that they have to buy for themselves. Their wedding bands! I know, I know they are expensive, but they have to buy this not the parents! I bet if you were to offer to pay for their wedding bands then they would really appreciate you forever. It could save them money for their honeymoon

Isn't she registered anywhere? If not, how about a keepsake that she'll have forever to remind her of you & her wedding, like a beautiful music box.
