"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!"
- Rev. Jerry Falwell, America Can Be Saved, 1979 pp. 52-53, from Albert J. Menendez and Edd Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom

Jerry Falwell was a crazy hate filled bloated old man...who thankfully didn't speak for God, but spoke for himself.

You had pointed out some good points in your inquiry above. 1) God favors 2) God dislikes 3) The Old Testament A lot of the stories in the Old Testament God had really been seen as a selective God, choosing those He favors and blessing them well. And there is those that God found displeasure in because of their evil ways and hearts. But, it was all the Old Testament and that is where the New Testament comes in with hope, salvation, and eternal life. Everyone sins even the oldest to the youngest of humans that walk this planet. According to His commandants (10) who can say that they don't sin. Well Rev. Falwell was very blunt in his teaching, it was a doctrine he truly believed in and stood up for. No matter what response he got !

What's your reaction going to be on the day your kids teacher wear a Hajib with Veil and prays 10 times at the wall before starting class because her religion requires it and congress can't pass any laws to stop it.

How about a Hindu women in her traditional dress with Henna tatoos are her hands and arms.

Are they not allowed to teach in public schools.

England is trying to outlaw that and is facing civil unrest.

You know, like a black teacher who is denied a job in the school system, despite their credentails, just because they dress and act differently.

Just because they teach history from a different point a view. The point of view that America was a slave nation who built it's wealth on the backs of what CONSTITUTIONALLY were called "other persons."

There are all sorts of "truths" and "realities" in this world and NOT everyone agrees with some or all of them.

I just blogged a ton of quotes from Mr. Falwell in my 360 blog, including that one. If what he said happens in our schools, there WILL be an uprising from not just non-believers, but all other beliefs as well. Schools should be secular (not atheistic... there's a difference).

definitely thank whoever you wish.

but public schools need a vast overhaul; unfortunately the politicians are so far in bed with the "religious" right that we're in for more shenanigans.

It is amazing how we as Christians can point out the dangers of Islamic fundamentalism yet excuse Christian fundamentalism as harmless or even 'American'.

It is just as bad and just as much a danger to democracy and all our citizens finding Liberty and Justice For All!

Here's another Falwell gem::

"The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country”
