I grew up in the same county as he. He is ten years older than I. He stayed. I left. I remember the area as being quite conservative in nearly all aspects. Religion in particular was conservative. While attitudes there have changed, as they have everywhere, I suspect that they remained (in my age group any way) conservative. I am sure he retained his core values from the time I have described, and stuck with them. I am sure that he believed he was doing the right thing even though many did not agree with a lot of what he said. He did not come from a particularly religious family. His dad and uncles were bootleggers (not a looked down upon occupation at that time, and quite likely still not) They later became respectable business men. I don't think he was evil. I don't know that he was good. I suppose that in summation I will quote a line from a movie that made the audience of the time gasp. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"

You can't blame Falwell enough, that Nazi tried to drive this beautiful country into the ground.
Like an article said perfectly- "The religious right has done so much harm to scientific progress throughout history and never, ever have they apologized for it."
I'll dance on his grave if I get a chance, this is a great day for America! Its time people seen as leaders in this country stop brainwashing people for their own selfish causes. Just my $0.02...

The Bible says that "we're all as filthy rags" compared to God, but through Jesus Christ, we're made righteous and God remembers our past sins no more.
Since Dr. Falwell proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, while born a sinner, was made good through God's mercy.

He was a good man. Though he was misguided on many issues he sought to better society and lead others to Christ.
I think it is detestable that some on Y!A have been so disrespectful to his family, friends, and supports in this time of loss.

Those who claim that those killed by death or natural disaster die from the revenge laiden hands of an angry god must most assuredly be considered to have been revenged upon when they, themselves die.
Anything else dishonours their memory.

Just a man, with no more or fewer frailties than most of us.
Dorothy (to the Wizard of Oz): "You're a very bad man!!"
Wizard: "Oh, no, my dear! I'm a very GOOD man! I'm just a bad wizard."

He had the vices of his virtues - unfortunately excessive religion makes you take uncompromising moral stances that are, well, just plain wrong
