calmly explain this to the judge the D.A. earlier if you get the chance. Tell them that you are sorry will never do it again. If you can talk to DA ask for deferred prosecution which means you can't get in any more trouble or you get prosecuted for this. Just for saying that you would slap him if charged it should be reduced to a disorderly conduct which is what any normal cop would have written you up for. Call a lawyer to ask for sure. most give free first visits and might tell you exactly what to do as they would know local and state laws and the judge and his attitude as well as the cop.

"Smiley G" is somewhat confused.
Many judicial opinions realize that officers see and hear more than the average citizen therefore when someone "shoots the bird" or uses profanity against an officer...the officer will most often ignore the ignorant comment.
Not to be confused, however, with disorderly conduct which if comments are made in a loud and boisterous manner in public then you can have an arrestable offense. It's like yelling fire in a crowded building. Do you have a freedom of speech to incite panic or to be disorderly...no!
However, "I'll slap a cop" is not an issue under ones freedom of speech rights. It is a verbal threat! It goes beyond comments like calling an officer names or giving visual hand gestures. It is a statement that involves the act of causing physical contact and harm. As a "threat" to do harm it is an arrestable offense.
Best wishes.

First, your lucky you made it to the court house. Bonus for you.
Assult on a police officer could land you 364 days in the can if you shoot your mouth off in court like that. You'll probably get a slap on the wrist, but don't push the judge like that.

It depends on what the arrest was titled if it was assault you had to have actually assulted him and hit him. If it was terroristic threats or verbal assault then it could be jail time or community service have you gone to court yet about it or was it a ticket that you got? Get a good lawyer

If the arresting officer actually charged you with assault but you did not strike him you have nothing to worry about. Get a good lawyer and he will more than likely have it dismissed.
I guess it all depends on any other circumstances for which you were detained in the first place. You can get in trouble if you threaten any police officer.

Wow, what a surprise. The irony of course is that you view yourself as the victim somehow. Amazing...
