I had fixed braces fitted 3 days ago. I was always against the idea, ive never had problems with me teeth before. But i was persuaded in the end (somehow...) I was ok to get them fitted, but when i looked in the mirror at the ortho, i thought "s***t! thats a lot of metal!" i went straight back to school after and was immedialtely embarresed and hardly said a word all day. The next day, the teeth became v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v. painful, i was off my head on nurofen and was desperate to get them out. I even considered doing it myself (very stupid i know, but there we go). I went a bit ape-s**t, and i was issued with an ultimatum. By the next otho check up (4 weeks) if i still wanted them out i could have them out. Idk how ill feel then but i now feel very low. i have already begun to look forward to having them out in 4 weeks, but i dont know if its worth holding on for the full 2 years(!!!!!!!!) thanks for reading and sorry about the length.

Give your braces a month before you make any decision. I had braces and I was horrified at first, but then I got used to them (and they didn't hurt my mouth so much). If you keep them, the ultimate outcome is a beautiful smile!

I was in the exact same situation as you, in high school. I HATED them. What made it worse was that I was told I only needed them for 6 months but those 6 months turned into 1.5 years. Every month after those initial 6 months I complained like crazy that i should be getting them out, but they never came out.

Long story short, by the time I did get them out, I was actually very happy that they forced me to keep them that long. Braces will make your teeth/smile look crappy for what a year or two? But afterwards you have a lifetime of far better looking teeth then if you had the braces taken out early.

Leave them in, you may not like it now (trust me, I know what its like), but you will be VERY happy you did , down the road. If you have them taken out, youll just regret it later.

I know what you are going through. The first few weeks are painful. I put wax on mine to help with the pain. Watch what you eat. I made a mistake and had tomato soup. That burned. The pain will go away. Just hang in there. By the time you go back to the dentist, the pain should be gone.
