I had a sore throat for a week and then it stopped but after that the left side of my neck swoll up and I could not swallow. I went to the doctor and he thinks it could be lymphona. He did give me some antibiotics and now I can slallow just fine. so does that mean the antibioitcs are reducing the swelling. would antbiotics help swellling if it was a tumor. sorry for mispelled words.

antibiotics don't help with cancer, so it must have been an infection of some kind.

That is a good sign if the antibiotics reduce the swelling. If it was a tumor, you would need steroids to reduce the swelling. Still, a biopsy is the most definitive test. I started the same way [swollen neck]. The antibiotics did not help. In fact by the end of the 10 days, I could not even swallow the antibiotics. I had a tumor wrapped around my neck. It's gone now. So, even if it's something bad, there are great treatments out there. Stay in close contact with your doctor and try not to stress out. [I know, but try] Any itching? night sweats? weight loss?

I would keep a 'careful eye' on your throat area for a week or 2. Even suggest a number of tests to rule everything out on the safe side.

My good friend, JC had this swelling on one side of his throat area one day, and went into the Drs office, and have it looked at. He was supposed to start on the antibiotics, that never cleared up. In his case, he was a heavy smoker/ drinker that did not help make the matters easy. The swelling quickly turned into a buldge, it got reall big and soon enough the diagnosis was made, he had throat cancer. An operation was the last option followed by radiation. He went through 5 months of grief and pain. He succumbed to throat Cancer on 'Mother's Day'...(Sniff!) He was like a brother to me.....

So hate to see anything amiss among folks out there. Ain't kewl to watch someone suffering and leave us to another journey.

Good luck Mi amigo!

He probably should have done a biopsy and looked with endoscopy into your stomach (it spreads there sometimes)..this is how my sister was tested.

he gave you anti-biotics to rule out bacterial infection. it's best to make a follow-up consult. try to always get a second opinion.
