I had a hard time with my first two and my husband told me that we need to throw the bottles away and we eventually did well it worked, I don't like the idea and it was hard on me I think more than the kids, but he was right and after a few weeks they were on a sippy cup. As a mother I always think that my way is the right way but I do sometimes have to give my husband the go ahead. It usually works and it also makes him feel good that he was right about something, since women are always right...lol...

Was she a preemie? If so, give her time! I have a preemie and she, too, didn't start on a sippie cup until 14 months. Start slow and try to find a cup that has a tip simular to that of the bottle. Nuby cups, for example, are a good start for transitioning to the sippie. My daugther, too, likes the cheap disposable cups. Mostly, it's a texture issue. Your daughter is going from either breast or bottle to a hard sippie spout...she probably is confused.
As for the walking....keep encouraging her. My daughter is 21 months and just started walking. Try to put items further away from the couch, table, or whatever. Or...try to hold an item up about 2 - 3 steps away to see if she'll try and go for it. You may want to mention to your pediatrician getting some physical therapy going through your birth to three program. Every county has one. My daughter has been in it from age 6 months and it's been a TREMENDOUS help! Good Luck and stay patient....she'll get it when she's ready.

Maybe try a Nuby. It looks a little like a bottle instead of a sippy cup. There is also a sippy cup that has a straw and a flip cap. this is the only cup my daughter would take for awhile. I didn't like it because it is hard to clean and it leaks more than the playtex insulated. However, she liked the straw. Maybe you could show your daughter how to drink from the cup & keep offering it to her (without being pushy) until she decides to try it. Put it on her tray/highchair at every meal & let her try it when she's ready. You may want to talk to your dr about her not walking. There may be some tips a dr can give you to help her learn. Have you tried the push walker toys? Not the walkers with the seat that you have to put their legs through, but the walkers that convert from a walker to a riding toy? We have a couple of walking toys that really helped our babies learn to walk. Here's a link to one of them:

Kids will grow at there own pace. As tempting as it is to compare to other children don't. My daughter didn't potty train until she was 3 1/2. And when she did decide to use the potty, that was it. She did from that day on, yet the school and doctors would like you to think that it has to be done as soon as possible. Yes there are some developmental milestones that a child should reach at a certain age, but the cup thing is no big deal. Try a juice box with a straw instead. Again my daughter loved those but didn't like the sippy cup. Relax and enjoy her while she is so little, they grow quick.

For the sippy cup: monkey-see, monkey-do. You start drinking from a sippy cup and she probably will. Also you can put only what she likes to drink in sippy cups, and only water in bottles.
As for the walking, that is a mental thing. She has to feel secure enough to let go. And at 14 months it isn't abnormal that she doesn't. Yes lots of kids do, but not all, and as long as she has the physical strength to walk there is nothing to worry about.

I started to introduce a sippy cup throughout the day and weaned out the bottle. My son took to the sippy cup pretty quickly. There is a brand out there that has a very soft mouth piece for them that is similar to the texture of the nipple on a bottle. The brand is called Nuby. They are inexpensive and can be found at Walmart. Other sippy cups with the hard plastic mouth piece may take longer for your child to adapt to.
Some kids take longer to walk... mine started at 10 months, so I have not had a moments rest since then! I've read that it is easier for them to walk in bare feet or we got some really great shoes from Robeez. They are very soft and natural feeling and help them more than the rigid training shoes.
Good luck in both areas!

How I did it was only give water in her bottle and milk and juice in the sippy cup. Don't give in and if she has a temper tantrum over it take it away. Try again in 15 minutes.
I would address the walking issue with your pediatrician. If she is walking along the furniture and not letting go, she just may not be ready yet. Give her plenty of play time on the floor and don't carry her around all the time.
Have fun with her! And don't sweat the small stuff.

Do you take her around other children her age? IF she sees others doing these things, she will probably want to. She is just 14 months, keep in mind that all kids don't do things at the same age or at the same time. Be patient. Keep offering her the sippy cup. When she is ready she will let go of the furniture and walk on her own. One day when you least expect it she will do it and totally surprise you, and she will act like it's no big deal! Kids are like that. :)

I threw all my daughters bottles away, she screamed for like an hour but got thirsty enough she drank out of the sippy cup. Its OK to just let them cry. Also try letting her pick out the sippy cup at the store she will feel special that she got to pick it out and may be more fond of drinking out of it.

well maybe if she sees you drinking out of a cup then she will follow. Or if you put her in a pen or something like an empty room, then put her on one side and put go to the other side she will come to you. The Walking thing will take some time. She may grow out of it herself. and the sippy cup..... it is normal.
