why is there a 6 is the spearman rho formula?

I couldn't find a derivation, but it may have to do with the fact that (n + 1)C3 = ((n + 1)/1)(n/2)((n - 1)/3) = n(n^2 - 1)/6, which is what the ∑d^2 is divided by.
