I have had three kids and didn't wait six weeks with any of them. One of them I waited a couple of a days, another about a week and the last one propobly a week and a half. It was painful because I had an episotomy (i know this is gross) but my husband was extremely gentle. When he saw how uncomfortable I was, we waited a few more weeks but still did "stuff." If you really want sex, you can always have him go the "other way in" (I don't want to get more graphic)

The simple answer is - you can resume having sex when you start to feel like it again! Having sex too soon isn't harmful, but can be uncomfortable! Theoretically, in the first week after delivery, while the cervix is still open, sex without a condom could increase infection in the uterus by normal vaginal bacteria. Most women wait a couple weeks to months. It will depend on the type of delivery, whether or not you have stitches in your vagina, and if so how bad the tear was. Breastfeeding can decrease a woman's estrogen level, potentially leading to vaginal dryness and discomfort with sex. The first time you and your partner have sex, it is important to take your time and indulge in foreplay to ensure you are aroused and lubricated. Have some lubricant on hand in case this is necessary. Penetration should be gentle, as there may be some tightness or pulling from scarring around the vagina (even if your stitches have completely healed).
I personally waited the entire six weeks but had a fourth degree tear when delivering so I was scared to death to poop let alone have sex! haha
Anyway, best of luck to you! Have fun and enjoy that baby!

What you have to bear in mind are a few things:
a) You have a wound in your uterus about the size of a pancake. Your uterus has clamped down and is smaller now but the wound doesn't 'shrink', it's just closed off by the reduction in size of the uterus. Infection is possible and can be catastrophic, so you want to at least wait until you are all finished bleeding.
b) If you are breastfeeding you are *likely* to not get pregnant but there are no guarantees. You want to make sure to use protection if you have sex!
c) Is it for you, because you want to, or is it because your partner wants to? If it is because you want to and you aren't bleeding and you have a plan for birth control, take it easy (in case you have stitches or any sort of trauma to your bottom) and use lube, stop or slow down if it hurts and don't be afraid to say NO to your partner if he wants it and you aren't ready... use that 6 weeks to your advantage if you need to. ;)

Aside from episiotomy/c-section wounds healing, the inside of your uterus has to heal, too. The place where the placenta attaches is open [ like when a scab comes off too soon ] to infection. Wait until your lochia [ the bloody discharge ] ends.
[ about 4 weeks ].
P.S. You do not need to have episiotomy stitches removed - they are designed to absorb, and you may even find little pieces of stitch on your sanitary pad.

Good question. Ive heard the same thing, but my friend and my mother say about four weeks. If you have had stitches you have to wait until they come out. If you have had a c-section you have to wait 6 weeks.

Most doctors tell you to wait 6 weeks. My doctor told me to wait at least 4 weeks. We did go ahead and do it at 4 weeks with no problem. I felt ready. I just went with what my body told me.

They told us 6 weeks but I think it was about 4 weeks when we did. You should definitely wait at least 4 weeks. You need to heal up.

even though you are feeling better your body is still recouping inside and you dont start birth control until your first ck up so your very likely to get preg again if you use condoms it may irritate the tissue up there and cause infection its just not worth all of the risks

Try waiting but if you feel fine go for it! Biggest problem is epesiotomy (spell?) if you are not sore, shoot for the moon!
