Heres one of the sites Link 1 for an easy for new users version and it is totally free...... welcome to the peguin people
link 2 is a bit more complex, it has much tech data etc..
of you want a simple easy to use distro then do try freespire *** cool note: after making the cd? as you are going to install it? theres an option 2 where you can just run the o/s from cd and decide if you like it 1st neat huh...
freespire and linspire are exactly the same < see link 1 for all information on this O/S... cheers and welcome to the linux...
I use linux exclusively, its better faster stable etc...
EVERY POSSIBL STEP BY STEP CLICK BY CLICK INSTRUCTION IS RIGHT THERE @ LINK 1 ENJOY

SURE CLICK ON THE TOP RIGHT BUTTON ON THEIR PAGE TO DOWNLOAD IT
scroll down to:
Download Freespire 1.0.13 from Mirror Sites and select any one of the following:
Distromania.com
MadTux.org free download
Indiana University - FTP
Indiana University - HTTP
d.Linux-Bg.org
then follow instructions on how to burn it to disk* theres a free iso burn tool in that page
and poof all done! Yes it is that easy ... no magic involved!

1 last item for thought, if you have difficulty with dong this? you can buy it already on cd for 99 cents from frozen tech go to last link scroll to bottom of page n poof there it is oh but they do also charge 99 cents for shipping and it takes 3 or 4 days?

Best answer when you have a messed up computer is to get one of your friends to download and burn a Linux CD for you, since you said you have a connection problem.

I would suggest getting pclinuxos which can boot as a livecd without loading to your hard drive. Why? you may have pictures or something you want to keep before you wipe out the hard drive.

very very nearly newhere, it certainly relies upon on what version of Linux you pick to apply. i became advised that Ubuntu, is especially sturdy and honestly with a great variety of documentation. only google Ubuntu, or purple hat, or in spite of acquire, burn it on a cd and then deploy it.

I recommend Fedora, CentOS, or Debian.
