Where did you read or seen such a tale. It's possible that it has also happened one or more times but that's absolutely not a "traditional" Italian punishment. Mainly in the past and in the southern Italian region it has been instead popular the "delitto d'onore" ( crime for motive of honour) and the seducer was killed by the father or the brother/s of the girl.
Nowadays this is equalized to any other killing while in the recent past the sentence for a motive of honour crime was lighter than for a crime due to other reasons.
In any case, better you don't date any Italian girls (especially if she's from the South), unless yr intention is to marry her !!
