The Catholic Church's roots are firmly and unequivocally with Jesus and his first disciples--the first, the true, Christianity!

Well, obviously, some of you have your minds made up about the Catholic Church and what it teaches...but you couldn't be more wrong! Catholics do not pray to "idols"; if you are talking about statues in churches, they are just a means to center our attentions. The Pope is only said to be God's spokesperson on earth, and absolutely RIGHT only on matters of Church doctrine. (Jesus said to Peter {"peter" meaning "rock"--"} "Upon this rock I shall build My Church" and He told Peter that "whatever you forgive on earth is forgiven in Heaven".

The Catholic Church has made many mistakes, but so have many others!

Apparently they feel threatened by us. And, the misconceptions and outright lies about what we believe are violently rampant amongst most of them.

Case in point - the two posters after me...both are wrong. It's always amazing to me that they think they know what we believe better than we do. LOL...

Ms Sassi - you don't know anything about Catholicism if that's what you beieve.

Oh Joey I love this type of challenge from the Catholic haters and I will never back down from them, the reasons for this seem to be many but actually they are not;
The Protestant churches are segregated and in dis-unity for one thing, another point is that there are so many separate denominations that in reality all believe themselves to be the elect of the Lord.
Now Protestantism is but a breakaway splinter group of Catholicism and as such can only feel secure in attacking the parent (Catholicism) and like the precocious and spoilt child that cannot get it`s own way in everything has become the classical armchair tyrant in many ways.
This is particularly seen in Fundamentalism but every other Protestant denomination has varying degrees of this attitude.
The fact that Protestantism was begun by Martin Luther who while a Domican Priest got a Nun pregnant and later married her coupled with the fact that he died almost demented does not seem to register with these people, now all you have to ask yourself is this,How could Christ Who founded His church on St.Peter after 1500yrs declare that He was wrong and then start a breakaway church??
This is very bad theology on the part of these protesters, the reason in reality that they have been allowed to carry on at all is because they do believe in Christ and the Gospel and this is their saving grace.
Little do they realize however is that by attacking the Mother church they heap coals upon their own heads and have lost out on the sacramental life of the church in that they have lost the ability to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, and the great sacrament of confession.
There is tons more I could add but this is sufficient for now.

They say that because Catholicism was created well after the death of Christ. They appointed themselves the caretakers of the bible and decided which gospels should and SHOULDN'T be included in it. They also have done MANY anti-Christian things over the years, one of the biggest being the Crusades. Their armies travelled the world killing anybody who wouldn't convert, supposedly 'in the name of God'. Also they manufactured a lot of rituals and practices that have nothing to do with what Christ himself taught. They created the role of Pope, and started naming tons of saints, though Jesus was believed to have taught that no man should be elevated above another.

There are millions of well-meaning people around the world who follow the Catholic faith. I don't knock them, just the history of the organization that they follow. I mean, the Catholic church also ostracized anybody teaching knowledge which they didn't approve of whether it was religious, scientific or whatever. They stoned a famous astronomer (Copernicus, I THINK) to death in the 1500's for simply suggesting that the earth was NOT the center of the universe and that the Sun did NOT revolve around it. The Catholic church didn't even acknowledge that he was right until the EARLY 1900's. That was well after most educated societies in the world had already discovered this to be true for themselves. And those are just a few examples of why Catholicism takes some knocks for the way it was founded and ran over the years, though personally, I still take it a little more seriously than Mormonism for example. Now that is NOT a Christian religion. They manufactured so much mythology that nobody can prove that it's not even funny.

Well, I can only think of one thing, and surely can lead to another thing. People who say they are true 'Christians' that believe in Jesus Christ, commit to good deeds and charity. I strongly believe other religions practise almost the same idea but different method..

Then there are some people who are Catholic w/ a dark side to them, the result from what they do horrible things and are caught and exposed. Once the word gets out, people are SO QUICK to JUDGE the char actor of a 'catholic parishioner' even a priest who made vows to serve his lord, he knew it was 'WRONG' to molesting children. Those who hide their dark side is a 'FAKE' catholic, and not true to their heart of respect for others.

Again, many people have a dark side to them while they 'LIE' to say they do practise their religion of faith, once their secret is exposed, the culprit is the individual itself, brought it on!

There is so much to debate, people squabble with opinions and yet who is right or wrong? One day the truth will come---No one KNOWS---WHEN?

i respect a lot of catholic traditions.

i however do not believe in praying to Mary, because there isn't anywhere in the bible it says to do that. i don't believe i need to confess my sins to a priest....although it does say to confess your sins, i believe i can do that in prayer or to a trusted friend. i don't like the figure of Jesus on the cross....because He's not there anymore..He is risen.

i believe that christianity is so much more than a religion, that it is a relationship with my lord and savior Jesus Christ.

i do believe that we pray to the same God, that you will go to heaven just like I will. I just know that there's so much more to this God we worship and I can't wait till the day that we all just keep the main thing the main thing instead of bickering over who's right and who's wrong...that makes us all wrong!

Usually the Protestant fundamentalists who deny that Catholicism is Christian get their Christianity from Catholic sources( the NT Canon, the Creeds and most things that they think are "just plain Christian"). They would have no Christianity at all if their Catholic ancestors in the Faith did not pass it down.

Angery or ignorant people say the Catholic church isn't Christian. Christian denomination broke off from eachother because of different interpretations each person had of the bible. Actually THe Catholic church is not the first. Catholics broke off from the Greek Orthodox hundreds of years ago because of a difference in opinion about praying to statues of Saints and how to define purgetory. It is actually up for debate as to whether the Greek Orthodox or the Syriac Orthodox is the first.

Sorry Joey, but that's not true & these posters now know the Truth and it has set them FREE from the Grip of the Dogma that the Catholic church spews!!! Yes, I'm sure U will tell me how Christ told Peter that "He" is the "Rock" upon which "He" will build "His" Church, right? Problem is, In the "Original Aramaic", "He", is Jesus Christ, the "Rock", "Cornerstone" upon which "He" (Christ) will establish the Church here on earth!!! Pete is a Sinful man just like U & Me, and that would make a pretty poor foundation!!! Of course U have a Great example of what happens on a foundation built on mans efforts, just look to the Tower of Babel & the Catholic church to see EVERY SIN IMAGINABLE in the name of RELIGION!!! Sure U can say that that was in the past, B.S. "Priests" are still Stealing & Raping in & from the congregation then running back to Rome to hide!!! I pray U soon awaken from Ur ignorance before Ur sleep is Eternal. John ps. get a good study handbook like Halleys & read up on the horrors of the Catholic church.

As is obvious from the responses you're getting, a lot of people have chosen to believe what they've been told about Catholicism, instead of asking those of us who've studied our religion and know why we believe what we believe. It's easier to accept the lies and misconceptions taught by someone else than find out the truth for themselves.

Catholics are definitely Christians, and anyone who doesn't understand that is either misguided or willfully refusing to accept the truth.

my faith is strong, no one will be converting me! I will not push my religion on others, if they choose be protestants so be it , their salvation is at risk....that is their business, Catholic church is the church Jesus Christ founded, the gospel untainted, the orthodox church is also the. true church and we will soon be united God willing. I really do not care if people ridicule me for being catholic and for all that do not understand the spiritual aspects of faith see the reference in the catholic encyclopedia on line.

Wow, and I thought atheists and muslims got all the hate around here.

I've often wondered this too, being a former Catholic. Most of my friends are Catholic as well. Nicest people you'd ever meet :)

I am certainly getting an education from this question!! So sad, how closed-minded, hateful and cruel people can be to others who believe in the same god...

And we want this to be a christian nation with no separation of church and state, eh? Catholics, I fear for your freedoms should that ever come to pass, with this kind of intolerance in abundance.

Sorry for butting into your question, but this is just too shocking. Best wishes to you.
