Here is my fave icing to put on the top of my cherry cakes. Try it. It is out of this world!!! Happy Baking! :)
Cherry Cake Icing
1 1/2 cups shortening
1/2 cup heavy cream
6 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons clear vanilla
1 (3 ounce) package cherry gelatin
1/4 cup cherry pie filling
For the banana supreme cake I would probably use a home made banana icing. Here is the recipe my mom likes to use. Hope these help you! :)
Banana Icing
1 banana, sliced
2 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/3-1/2 cup sugar

For the cherry cake i would say chocolate but that for some reason doesn't sound too good to me. I would go with a neutral icing that isn't too sweet. Maybe no icing at all and instead a confectioners glaze? You could even just drizzle a Cherry brandy or liquor on it if the cake was for an older crowd?
And for the banana is HAS to be cream cheese frosting. That is one of the best cake icing combinations in the world!

Chocolate frosting will go great with both the cherry cake and the banana supreme cake. Think of it as a chocolate covered cherry or a chocolate covered banana in cake form!

Never had "cherry" cake, but I guess either white buttercream or cream cheese icing would be good. Maybe chocolate with the banana cake with sprinkled pecans on top.
