Im currently studying a child care course. The key is to have the potty out before toilet training to allow the child time to get to know the potty without formally being sat on it. If the child doesnt like the potty when they are first introduced, put it away, yoor child is clearly not ready. Indicators that yoor child is ready incluse:
*They realise when there nappy needs changing
*There nappy is dry for long periods-gaining bladder control
*An interest in potties and toilets
*Communication skills to indicate toilet needs.
DONOT become irritated or cross if yoor child doesnt like the potty this will increase fear.
Accidents are inevitable, this shouldnt be made a fuss off. Simply remove the clothes and replace with new ones. The child shouldnt be shouted at as this will lower confidence in trying again. Hope this helps good luck xxx

If it's because she is afraid she will fall in the toilet, there are little seats made to fit the child's behind that fit onto the toilet so that the child can sit there normally like an adult would. Any baby department of any store like Target or Wal-Mart will have them. She'll need a little stool to get up there on her own, of course.
If it's about the flushing, make sure to never flush until she is off the potty and has her pants on again, and let her do the flushing. Try to make a game of it for her.

My son is 2, and he is still kind of apprehensive about it. We have done a few things to help him though, and he is started to relax about it. We use the little potty for him, and when he goes we put it in the "big boy potty." At first we would just look at it and say (this sounds so silly) "Bye, bye poop (or pee)." At first I would tell him that I was going to flush the toilet, and he would run out and watch me do it. Now when he uses it he tells me he wants to put it in the "big boy potty." He tells me that he has to flush it now, and he doesn't run away. Also, just something else I noticed...keep her away from public restrooms if you can. For the longest time my son would go crazy when we would have to go in because it is so loud. He still doesn't like it. It really sucks, but it seems to have really just taken time for him to be "ready" to go near the toilet. Good luck. Hope you get her potty trained before 3. My son will be 3 in less than a month. I never dreamed that it would be this hard and take this long.

well if you scared her back off for a week or so and then try again. Also dont flush the toilet around her. try getting one of her dolls and her the doll go potty and then have a potty party for the doll and tell your little girl that when she uses the potty you will also have a party! it worked for my daughter, there is also a doll that you can have it drink and a blader in the doll when it is mashed will release the fluid making her go potty.
good luck Im now working on getting my daughter to poop in the potty

I don't have a daughter but when I was training my son, we made it fun. You get to wave bye-bye to whatever your body(be specific here) puts in it. Also, he really liked stickers, so when we had a successful trip to the potty, he got to pick out a sticker and put it on the lid. Bought a lot of fun stickers, and then everytime we went to the bathroom, to potty, or even to take a bath he always talked about the stickers. I think it took about a week for him to catch on, and he was not afraid being sucked down the potty, and any 'seperation' anxiety he had was way overshadowed by getting to put a sticker in a place where your not suppose to put stickers.
Hope that is what your'e looking for, it worked for us.

Just let her carry on using the potty until she feels confident enough to move to the next stage,, after all toilet is a huge scary hole when your only little... when you are out you could invest in one of those little porta potties from boots, I would never leave home without mine...

Go buy a toilet seat from Home Depot, and make a project of decorating it with her with fingerpaints, stencils, sponges, whatever. Use waterproof paints.
Then attach this to the seat instead. It will make it fun for her to want to go use HER toilet seat.
Wow, I just thought this up ... really great idea, I must say!
