Frank D and Douglas i agree with what you are saying there have been better lightweight fighters than some that ive listed. But the list ive compiled has fighters on it that i feel most boxing fans on this site will have heard of and seen fight due to them all being fairly recent champions. Alot of people will have heard of Armstrong, Gans, Leonard etc but not seen them actually fight so its hard to accuratey rate these fighters.

For Lightweights i would have it like this.
1, Roberto Duran
2, Benny Leonard
3, Henry Armstrong
4, Julio Cesar Chavez
5, Joe Gans
6, Barney Ross
7, Alexis Arguello
8, Pernell Whittaker
9, Carlos Ortiz
10, Ken Buchanan
Honourable mentions to Joe "Old Bones" Brown, Tony Canzoneri, Ismael Laguna, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley.
I felt pretty simular to the answerer above when trying to put the list of legends together with Camacho, Mancini and Rosario in the list i found it difficult so i dropped them and put in a few that i class as real Lightweight legends, hope you dont mind.

1. Roberto Duran
2. Pernell Whitaker
3. Julio Cesar Chavez
4. Alexis Arguello(more of a great featherweight than lightweight)
5. Oscar De La Hoya
6. Shane Mosley
7. Floyd Mayweather
I don't consider the rest to be "greats", so I won't rank them. Call me a snob.

this is a good question, hard to put in order though...
1 Pernell Whitaker
2 Roberto Duran
3 Floyd Mayweather
4 Alexis Arguello
5 Shane Mosley (if shane can beat mayweather, if mayweather will fight him, i'd move shane up to 3 and move mayweather down quite a bit)
6 Oscar De La Hoya
7 Ray Mancini
8 Edwin Rosario
9 Julio Cesar Chavez.
10 Hector Camacho
