There are not "so many" priests and ministers involved in such crimes. The number is less than 1%, the same as in any other group of men in society. The only thing that is different about cases involving clergy is the coverage by the liberal secular press, who haver a vendetta against the Church and all it stands for. If a scoutmaster or guidance counselor or teacher (the largest single group of offenders by occupation) in Arizona molests a child, people in the neighboring states might find an article on page 3. Or might never hear about it at all. But if a priest in Arizona is involved in such an incident, it will be on the front page of every newspaper in the country.
Also, practically no priests have been involved in actual pedophilia. Virtually all cases involving priests have involved adolescent boys, and the priests involved are therefore simply homosexuals, not pedophiles. The secular press prefers the term "pedophiles" because it creates an greater negative response even though it is not accurate, and it avoids casting a negative light on homosexuality, which is one of the causes most supported by the liberal secular press.
Obviously celibacy has nothing to do with it since (1) by far the largest group of pedophiles is married men; (2) the other 99% of priests are celibate and have no such problems;(3) such problems are just as common among Protestant clergy, most of whom are married; and (4) the priests involved are homosexuals and would not marry a woman even if allowed to.

Sex Addiction is a culture problem that is ragging out of control with the fuel of Magazines, Radio, TV, Porno, and Sex Trafficking, and birth control devices to take away personal responsibilities.
Sure the men of the cloth are being exposed. This is God's gift. I firmly believe that their exposure will lead to a cultural change.
However, this is FAR beyond the Church ... USA Senators who are given the task of cleaning up child molestations on the Internet are then exposed to be molesting ... High School Coaches ... Government workers ... and every niche in society is being exposed.
Question is ... what are we doing with them after they've been exposed? Answer is close to nothing. John Mark Karr publicly announced his sickness on the Dr. Keith Ablow show ... and the FBI on that show said, "We're not going to follow him 'cause we don't have the resources" .... WTF??? This is after the Thiland Government (a shady Govt.) hand-cuffed him, packaged him up, and handed him to the USA on a silver platter!!!
Then on the Dateline TV show where they catch the predators ...well, they're arrested and GET OFF!!! WTF???
Guess there is more Senators, Congressmen/women, and Government lawmakers who just don't care. After all, the Church doesn't penalize here on Earth ... it's a leader for our spirit ... and God's exposing the men of the cloth so that the masses of those addicted and sick can find treatment and eternal salvation.
However, if you want to protect yourself here and now ... It's the Government we need to battle. Hell, the Catholic Church has called the cops on their Priests ... and the government let the Priests go --- along with John Mark Karr, and the Senator who solicited little boys when he was hired to protect them

I think that some priests feel sexually repressed because they have to live a life of celibacy. A few bad apples go ahead and harm children rather than give up the priesthood and marry. Some of the televangelists are only motivated by money instead of strong religious faith, so they also get in trouble for fraud, prostitution, etc. When a religious leader gets caught doing something wrong, he or she gets a lot of attention because they are held to a high standard and it's shocking.

Because they are not living by God's laws. They are obviously in it for other reasons than God. The bible says Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. I think this is a fair question. Some people use their position. You are not supposed to judge, however, it's hard not to judge people like this. It's repulsive. These people are trusted by so many. This is why faith should be in God, Not man. After reading other responses. I want to add, This is the highest position a person can claim to have, to represent God. They know better. They definitely should not continue to hold their positions. They may be human, however they are supposed to live by a higher standard. To be leaders and representatives of God. I think some of you take this to lightly.

All of those caught have a hubris the size of a semi - they gave in to their temptations and sinful thoughts, and all think they are above authority. If left unchecked, their selfish ambitions and perverted desires overtake their actions and they think they are invincible over human law and God's Law. The sins committed weren't properly dealt with prior to incarnation or induction into ministry, and left dormant only to come out later when exposed to temptation. It is a common Christian experience to be bombarded with temptations of this world. Jesus knows of our torment: He was tempted many times by the devil 40 days and nights prior to his crucifixtion. Temptations of the flesh can be properly dealt with through the Holy Spirit in prayer, fasting, and worship. Temptation is not the sin. The true sin is when the temptation is not dealt with and is acted upon through shady, abominable behavior. Because of original sin, our flesh will always be weak and prone to temptation, but to have victory, we must feed our spirits to overcome temptation:
"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." -- Matthew 26:41 KJV

Seriously, I only think about 20% of the accusations are actually true. The others are just cashing in because there's money to be made. The Catholic church especially considering the organization is itself the world's most wealthy land owners. I believe if they are caught, and convicted they should get punished according to the law. As far as their position in the church, that's the churches responsibility.

because its most catholic Priests who are doing the molesting, its because catholic priests are not allowed to marry. Marriage is what is suppose to be the solidarity and the given right of most people but because they cannot marry and hence are forbidden to fornicate, even most pastors in other religions have the right to marry, thus have consensual marital intercourse with their wives, Catholic priest being unable to get married have no outlet for the "carnal" needs that we so naturally have, except throught the young lean pre pubescent boys they are around all the time. I believe if they were able to get married and have sex with their wives they would not molest those boys like they do. They need an outlet for that need, and not given one that all men should have the right to which is marriage and the consumation of marriage they take it out on the kids.

Because they are human, and humans are not perfect. It is no more a product of Religion than when a baseball coach does the same thing using baseball as the cause.
People do bad things.
But the Faith is not at fault.

It's a human condition that doesn't necessarily correlate with religion. Unfortunately people in leadership positions within a church are trusted more than they sometimes should when it comes to access to small children.
