I am not sure where the previous poster came up with that income requirement or a requirement of owning your own home, as I don't believe any state requires those things for Domestic adoption. Some other countries have income and age requirements, so it depends on the type of adoption you plan on doing.
Yes, for all adoptions (including International) you will be subjected to a homestudy which includes FBI and State criminal background checks, and you will be interviewed by a social worker to ensure you are emotionally capable of being a good parent etc.
We also had to have our home checked for enough room for a child, and any glaring safety or maintenance issues.
They went over our stated finances and budget to ensure we could afford to raise a child.

yes, you need to make enough money (not rich, by any means) to support yourselves and a child. Age may be a factor, depending on how you go about it...how long you have been married may also be a factor. Yes, they do a background check on you...we went through our state...haven't adopted yet, planning on it / trying to terminate parental rights on one we have now...this particular case...it's been a year and we haven't even heard the defendants side yet and aren't scheduled to go back until AFTER this apeal has been heard! Say prayers, we will be done with court by 2008!~

Well from my understanding, they check to make sure you are financially stable, they do look at your back ground, certain agency's do consider age when looking at a potential parent. Some make sure if your looking for a baby the parents are young, and the older the child the older the potential parent must be. I would look at a couple of web sites but be carefull of scams. Good Luck

well here in canada... they just require you to be over 19... and that one of you have a job... you have enough room for another person in your place ( home , apartment where ever you live)... you dont need to own your own home... or have a certain amount of income... they do criminal back ground checks... wich i think if you do have a record it isnt all that bad.. (as long as you havent been charged with child abuse or child molestation.. charges in that sort)
They will have you work with a social worker for awhile until he/she feels you are ok to do things with out him/her...
I think that is about it...
if you really want more info look in your phone book at what kind of adoption you would like to do.. (catholic..... native.. )... and then ask them if they could send you info on what you need to do to adopt and what to expect...
good luck!!!

Start the process now. They look at everything from age, education, fertility, finances, criminal background. It will cost you about $30,000.
